Covid-19 vaccine
« on: January 22, 2021, 06:03:53 AM »
I got the first dose of the Moderna vaccine yesterday and, at present, have experienced no side effects. I have an appointment for Feb. 18 for the second dose. The main uncertainty is whether or not the dosage will be available. At least, it's "so far, so good".

I signed up (I hope!), to request an appointment, for the Phase 1a2 shots last Monday. I say "hoped" because there is no verification other than a computer voice on the phone. Each State has their own phase list since the CDC list is different. According to my State's list/schedule, my age group was eligible Dec. 2020 with some fine print stating "Estimated timelines and phases are preliminary and subject to change". Not to mention a wider implementation of the Defense Production Act...

My oldest Son and his wife are almost recovered from their confirmed Covid infections. He has gone back to work. She was told to stay home for another week since and take more meds. The doctors said she did not have pneumonia "yet". She worked last weekend plus Mon. & Tue. since she is the only one at the rural school system who can complete the year-end employee payroll info. :wallbash:

I got the second dose of the Moderna vaccine 28 days after the first. The first time, I had no side effects. The second time, I started to feel fatigued and had a sore throat a few hours after the shot. The sore throat disappeared within 30 minutes but the fatigue continued into the next day, when I developed a temperature of 100.5. In addition, I had subliminal nausea and reduced appetite. This sounds worse than it was. The symptoms did not interfere when I had to shovel snow for 3 hours (and I felt better doing that activity than sitting around). All ill effects were gone the next day.

My wife just received the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine and, a day later, her only "complaint" (and that's much too strong a word) is that her arm has a very minor soreness at the injection site. We fully expect that she will have some side effects when she gets the second dose, so we will be prepared.

Some advice from an RN and MD: If you need to take medication to reduce your discomfort, take Tylenol ONLY. DO NOT USE Advil or aspirin. (This applies to generics, naturally.) This advice applies specifically to the COVID vaccine and is not a recommendation for any other use. For the record, I never was ill enough to feel compelled to take Tylenol.

We're supposed to get our second shot March 2th. That is assuming the State (TN) allows the County (Shelby) Health Dept. to continue the injections. TN found out that the County was "hoarding" vials that it should not have been holding back, that explains the long waits at various times. They found that ~2500 doses were lost because they had spoiled/expired. TN has also called in the FBI after some claimed that several loaded syringes had been stolen! The County's Chief Chief Health officer was fired. I'm looking for an image of one of the "Official Documents" she turned over to the State; simply a plain piece of paper with hand-written info. It is possible she had a 6th grader doing the 'bookkeeping'. :wallbash:  :nono:

We got our second dose on time! Took more time to fill out the questionnaire than to wait in lime! Neither of us could even find a spot on our arms the next day! Now, we could 'associate' with others who've had their shots (two weeks earlier) if we would have something like a code we could paste on our forehead... In the mean time, we'll simply avoid AL, MS and TX and other "Neanderthal" states that believe in magic. :whistling: :coolio:
