Is Thie What Happened to My Chia pet?!
« on: July 19, 2021, 08:55:53 PM »
Bitcoin rival Chia 'destroyed' hard disc supply chains.

I have a have only a bit (no pun intended, of course) of understanding of Bitcoin and remarks such as "Bitcoin requires so-called miners to do vast amounts of useless calculations to maintain the network, a system that is known as proof of work." don't help. As for "Chia", their method is much more easily understood: "Chia instead uses a proof-of-space approach that ditches these calculations and relies on empty hard disc space. The more space a miner devotes to the task, the higher their probability of receiving new coins." That's so simple, right? NOT!!

Anyway, these two competitors are now trying to imply that one is "greener" than the other; using computer 'miners' to run "useless" programs uses massive amounts of energy (no matter its color)! Simply 'owning as many hard drives as possible' doesn't require running any programs! Except that you have to actually have those drives spinning so you can 'prove' they are available and empty. And...

I gotta stop right there. I need to run to the bank and order some more checks... :laughhard:

At least I'm not in the market for any hard drives... today. :whistling: :coolio:
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system
