Screensaver on a new laptop
« on: December 30, 2021, 07:57:13 PM »
Just a quick question, bought my wife a new laptop to replace her old one! Did apple change what photo format can be used Iv’e used JPEG’s in the past, they won’t work on the new one, although desktop JPEG’s work fine? Thank you and happy new year!
So many Mac’s, so little time!

Some questions:
Q #1: Where are you placing your own Desktop Pictures?

Q #2: What do you mean by

they won’t work on the new one
What format are you talking about as "they"?
Q #3: Are you saying you cannot view/display a ".heic" image?

Q #4: Are "Desktop" and "desktop" two different things

There are two different "Desktop Pictures" directories:
  • BootDrive(WhateverItMightBeNamed)/System/Library/Desktop Pictures. That is the directory where the normally installed DP are. They will probably be .heic, the format Apple started using in iOS and now in OSX.
  • The directory you probably have used for your own DP's may be:
    BootDrive(WhateverItMightBeNamed)/Library/Desktop Pictures
That's where most of mine are and they are mostly .jpeg
If, for some reason, you want to convert a .heic to something else, Apple provides Preview. You can "Export..." to any of the following formats: JPEG, JPEG-2000, OpenEXR, PDF, PNG and TIFF. Any of those can also be "Export[ed]..." as HEIC.

Preview is an often over-looked Apple app. It can do quite a lot of actual image manipulation and never even think about a PDF! :coolio:

And the United States = The Banana system
