Last week I noticed a very small (tiny!)
red dot above the cell power strength bars on my iPhone. Just wondering why it was there.
According to Apple, there is
NO red dot where I was seeing it! Apple says it is either
orange or
green.
So:
- I'm going color blind
- Apple is wrong
- There is another answer
1. All other colors seem quite normal and my names usually agree with what others use for them, so I don't think my color vision capabilities are changing.
2. Apple is never wrong.
3. I did find one reply to this question noted that 'orange' on a "dark background" can look 'red'. Is "dark background" the same as "Dark Mode"? I have never intentionally selected or allow "Dark Mode" and the normal (default background image) at that spot is a light grey, at least on my Lock Screen. Still looks
red to me!
The
technical answer is that the 'orange' and 'green' dots are an indication that the phone's microphone is being used. Awakening Siri is an easy way to see the 'orange'/'red' dot. However, 'she' goes back to 'sleep' fairly quickly when I don't speak to her (your milage may very, I'm just not very sociable with Siri). So that doesn't help explain why I was constantly seeing 'red'.
A Restart of the phone seems to have eliminated the dots for the time being.
