Modem Online Time Indicator
« on: August 12, 2003, 11:54:17 AM »
My brother has an iMac running OS 10.2.6 and connects to the Internet via a 56k modem.

He wrote to me that the online count time which shows on the menu bar disappears when he downloads something or goes to retrieve email or opens a file. In other words, just about anything he does will cause the counter to disappear.

That in itself is not a problem, but it appears that the connection is closed... but it's not! So, he sometimes forgets to check and then leaves his connection open.

That's not good when you pay for a minimum usage service.

I would like to help him, if I knew what to do, but I have no experience with it. I use a cable modem.

Any suggestions?

TIA

Well it doesn't show in Safari. Which is annoying. dry.gif

It does show for me in IE. And OE as far as I recall.

He should open The Internet Connect Control Panel and minimize it.

That way he can see it quickly by clicking the Dock Icon. smile.gif

Thanks, kelly!

So, he's not the only one!

I'll tell him about the Internet Connect Control Panel and see if it makes sense to him.

I told my brother about the Internet Connection Control Panel.

He likes that idea and has modified it's use to his own method. The control panel stays on the Dock until he wants to go online. Then it gets maximized and stays on the desktop behind the active applications.

No matter what now, when he's finished browsing or sending email, the control panel is there as a reminder to shut down the connection.

He's a happier camper now. smile.gif

I noticed when using Safari with Panther on the Pismo. It shows. smile.gif

Do other Panther users see this? smile.gif
