Problem Copying folders to Zip disk
« on: August 22, 2003, 03:23:05 PM »
When trying to copy a folder that contain documents or backup files I get the following message "Sorry the operation cound not be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error -50)". I have duplicated the folder and tried to copy with the same results. What is it trying to tell me? I have a Mac G4 plenty of Ram using 10.2.2. It doesn't happen with all the folders. I have also switched Zip disks.

Jim:

This is a bug that I've come across too.  The problem is that some of the file names are to long.  If you make sure that the names in the folder your trying to copy to the Zip disk are less than 32 characters, it won't give you that copy error message, and everything will copy as normal.  That's why some folder work and others don't.  The bug may be in the zip formatting, but I'm not sure.  Jaguar could be the culprit.  In any case, this is the workaround.   wacko.gif

Bill:  this copying problem is actually because the finder will change the checksum of the file name causing a parameter error.
