Broadband Speeds & Costs

In the US, 18% of the households cruise the net at ~1 MPS. Cost: ~$45.00 per month.
In Korea, 75% of the households cruise the net at ~3 MPS. Cost: ~$25.00. per month.
In Japan, 27% of the households cruise the net at ~10 MPS. Cost: ~$23.00. per month.

And I thought my 1.5 to 1.8 MPS at $45.95 a month was a good deal... doh.gif

MPS= Megabits Per Second.

The numbers quoted above represent download speeds. Upload speeds are typically much slower.

In test I just performed, my download speed was 1.83 MPS. But my upload speed (restricted by Comcast) is (only) 173 kilobits per second.

I had a feeling it might be Megabits per second.
But... isn't that Mbps? blush-anim-cl.gif

I'm not sure of the numbers in Sweden, but I recently heard that 90% of the Swedes (all ages!) has Internet access and I think it was about 75% of them that has some type of broadband. Most common is actually fiber network at 2 to 10 MBit.

The government has a goal that 90% of the Swedes (i.e. all that has Internet access today) is going to be able to surf the web waves at least ADSL speed, but in the cities at higher speeds (10MBit and more). This is to make it possible for someone living in a very remote area to be able to stay and work from home instead of having to move into a larger city.

We pay about $35 USD a month for our 10MBit connection.

For fun comparission we pay $25 USD A YEAR for our cable tv laugh.gif

Mrious be, You are absolutely positively no doubt about it, correct!The proper abbreviation for megabits per second is: Mbps: http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/0,...i212534,00.html

I'm a bit (or is it byte?) busy now, but soon I hope, to create the explanation that convinces all, that my error was really Bxxxxx's fault. devilishgrin.gif

I just found out today that $30-$33 of my Earthlink broadband hookup goes to the phone company. I didn't know that they gouged for that much.  It makes my ISP seem less greedy.

Comcast to double net speed to ~3megabits per second by end of year (though no mention of cost).
