Apple Works 6.0 4

Apple Works 6 operated perfectly for a number of years.  I am using OX -10.2;
B&W G3 with 512 Ram.   Suddendly, basic word processing became unusable due to its dragging. Also. if i clicked for a spell check, the app would quit.  This draging occurs even though no other program is working.  The draging is the same on OS 9.2 as well as 10.2.  Trashing the Preference vial did not help.  I also went to Utiliies in OX 10.2 and ran the cleanup of the disc.
Thinkiing that the file was corrupted, I trashed the entire Apple Works 6 and installed a anew.  As the basic application it worked in 9.2-until I tried a spell check.. I also attempted upgrading to AppleWorks 6.07.  No change.
Of course through out each new trial I restarted to assure there was no competition  for available Ram.
   What can be the problem?  What needs corection?  Thanks  Herb  Block

Hello Herb. Welcome to the Forum.

Have you tried Repairing Permissions under OS X?

This is always a useful first step.

Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility

Select the Volume and choose Repair Permissions.

You can do this while other Applications are running.

My version of AppleWorks says 6.2.7, try updating to that.

Hey Herb, I've got to tell you, I've got AW6.2.7 on the Jaguar side of my computer, but it takes (literally!) about 5 times as long to get up and get moving as AW6.? that I have on the OS9.2 side!  Usually, if I'm going to use AW, I work on the 9.2 side, which is almost instantaneous.  I've got to say, though, that once it's up and running, on Jag, it seems to do just fine.

L found the answer to my  question re the extreme slowness of AW6.  Go to knowleddge base, Apple.com.  The problem is caused by an overloaded RECENT ITEMS.  Recent items ordinarily holds about 30 items. Mine had 79. It was choked.  Open Recent Items. select all. then delete to give you a fresh start.  The difference is amazing.  Of course don't delete items you want to keep.    Herb

No wonder AW 6.2.7 on Jag launched so fast for me (within three bounces on an iBook 500). I have always had recent items turned off.
