Converting from OS 8-9 to X
« on: September 06, 2003, 07:21:08 AM »
According to Charles Moore of Applelinks:

If you’ve been using Mac OS 8/9 and you want to start using Mac OS X today, this book (The Mac OS X Conversion Kit by Scott Kelby) is your best trip. There are no turgid in-depth explanations about networking, no UNIX commands or instructions on how to hack the system, and no detailed descriptions of how it all works and why. In short, it’s not a “tell me all about it” book—it’s a “here’s how to do it” book, and it works..

There’s a lot to learn in switching to OS X and a lot to get used to. This book helps flatten the learning curve as much as possible by cataloging the most important things you need to know and showing them in a format Mac users will appreciate.

I have not seen that work, so I can't (or at least should not) comment on it. But I do have Mac OS X, The Missing Manual (second edition) by David Pogue and believe that to be first rate.

New online training product offers another option. Take a look at the course offerings (including OS-X beginning and intermediate) at

http://www.itutoronline.com/

they are well done and being computer based many have found them more useful than books. I am affiliated with this venture and if you use the reseller code DMAA when you order I get a small credit. A free course sampler is provided to allow a preview of the format and style. I have been getting very positive feedback from my clients that have used the service. Individual courses run $29.95 and bundles are available for additional savings.

I have read "Killer Tips for Jaguar," and can whole heartedly recommend this book for anyone or level user.  Scott's line of books are state of the art in print materials.  To date, I have read 5 of his books, mostly on PhotoShop (he is the president of NAPP), and they all were no nonsense, non geekish, and top quality infomation.
