The Prodigal Daughter...
« on: September 07, 2003, 09:25:29 PM »
Well, that's a somewhat grandiose way to reintroduce myself, but it seemed somehow appropriate... You see, I finally got down to the Shaumburg Apple Store and purchased a G4 15" Powerbook!  I am so infatuated with this thing, I don't recall feeling so excited about a computer since the very first Tandy 102 laptop I bought in 1984, on which I wrote an entire novel (unpublished, but what the heck... it was a personal best!)  I haven't even taken it out of the styrofoam, but I keep opening the box and looking at it!

(Well, look, guys, don't tell anyone about this, okay?  They'll think I'm a goofball, and I can't afford to besmirch my impeccable image.  Right!)

Good to get back!  Miss y'all.  Hope everyone is doing great!

What a present to the gang, as we get ready for Our Birthday . . . a visit by Dr. Lorraine.  clap.gif

Don't apologize for looking at the new PB. Haven't you ever looked in your garage just to be sure a brand new car is "safe" for the night? laugh.gif  laugh.gif  laugh.gif

Next task:  figure out the price schedule for colleagues being allowed to toy with it, at the University. whistling.gif

Welcome Home hon.  And with such good news!!!
Do not fear your enemies.  The worse they can do is kill you.  Do not fear friends.  At worst, they may betray you.
Fear those who do not care; they neither kill nor betray, but betrayal and murder exist because of their silent consent.

She was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.

And having a new PB in hand can't hurt. tongue.gif

All is again right with the world.

Oh, gosh, thank you all, my sisters & brothers!  That's how you know you're family, when you can disappear without a word and be welcomed back so heartily!

The first string I bookmarked was Gary S's string on "iDVD... anyone have any experience with it?" because I have a feeling I'm going to need that!  I'm planning to start editing all my VHS cassettes and make DVD's.

One thing which I failed to get while I was there is Office for Mac.  I looked on eBay and found THIS but I'm not sure it is the right one.  Any advice, hmmmmm? sad.gif

By the way, Dick, the price for YOU to use it any old time you want is FREE!  And that's not just because you are 2000 miles away... Really!

Lorraine, In short...

I favor the Office v. X over the v 2001, esp. with that new zoomie computer of yours. But it is only for OS X.

In Office X, Word, Power Point, and Excel are usually highly rated. Entourage ratings are a bit more mixed.

I have found the above ratings to be fair.

Yup, Harv's right . . . (as usual)!

With an "educational" employer, you should be able to get a really good deal on Office for X.

Despite that its 10 (to the 6th) number of features drive me k-r-a-z-y, when all I want to do is make a format change,  go get the copy for X, not <X.

Welcome back Lorraine.  Your absence has not been inconspicuous I assure you. I have wondered about your whereabouts often.
