Need some opinions/ideas on this..
« on: September 18, 2003, 05:12:37 AM »
I contribute at another mac message board (macminute) and tonight/early this morning a friend of mine in the Boston area had her 12inch Powerbook stolen. sad.gif

Well, I thought of this idea: If everyone there contributed up to $100 (more likely, contributed what they could) we could get her a new or refurb 12inch PB.
If you want to read the story, click here

I'm just wondering what you all think? Good idea and go for it, or good idea but don't do it?

Also, would welcome any donations smile.gif but that's not why I posted this here. I needed to get some outside opinions on this. Thanks.

And if the admins wish to declare this post not a good one for here, then please, delete it and accept my apologies.

Thanks,
John

Bad idea. Let her get insurance, use her home owners, or check and see if any was available, depending on how it was stolen.

Just imagine if everyone wanted a donation to get something new because they had an item lost or stolen.

Now, my PB is the older one, G4/4ooMhz. How about donations so I could get a new 15" 1.25Ghz

Hey John, it really depends on the community your in. If it were me, here, and someone like Dreambird lost her PB or you for that matter, (now that I’ve met you), I would consider the notion of assisting, but that’s me, with long term relationships and/or visits. Since your the organizer you may be viewed as a Con Artist for even suggesting it. Some here may view it that way as well, but if they knew more of you, your background and contributions to your physical community, it would be the last thought to come to mind.

Kudos to you for your efforts, it’s a “Good Thing” and if not a REAL LOSS on her part, it’s Only Money on your part wink.gif  clap.gif

I don't think your a con artist JK smile.gif - It's a great idea, but still probably wouldn't fly.

Peace
Peter

A bit of info from the MacMinute thread:
