Test it out.
« on: February 23, 2003, 08:13:00 PM »
I got a hosting account with IPS, the makers of Invision Power Board, the very board we'll be moving to here at Techsurvivors.

As part of the hosting deal, I got the board as well. I've been playing around with it for a day now and like it very much. Good joice founding members!

Anyhow, if any of you want to take it for a spin, you can --by going HERE.

I haven't changed it much from the default setup and there's no one there except for me, an old friend and his son. So feel free to try it out without any worries or reservations, I'll probably take it down later on anyway.

Let me guess...Bill, you're "shinyhiny", right?

kps , we like the options that come with that software and hope other TSers will, too.

Nice board. Have fun with it.

Is there any doubt?

krissel, I know the novelty will wear off, but for the time being it's fun.

Lot of options and settings, seems like a good choise. Are we going with the stock "skins" or is someone working on a custom theme for TS?

We've looked at a number of skins that are available from other sites to download. A couple are already expressed as easy on the eyes by the founders in testing but we would like to offer as many as is feasible. Don't know yet if having a lot to select will in any way slow the server which we certainly won't want to happen.

As yet we don't have a TS themed skin cause none of us has the time to figure out how to make one. It isn't as easy as configuring the UBB colors and icons. Maybe after we get the site itself realigned it might be interesting to try. Then again if we have enough variety in the premade skins we won't need our own.

Nice one,  kps.

And wow, Bruce, a whole international forum devoted to G4 noise. I hadn't realised it was that bad! Maybe I should revisit the graphics department at work and hear it all for myself.

Maybe so, but I can only admire, my own arms folded as fellow founders with skills far more developed than mine, pursue their considerable labours gearing up TS for Invision.
Because it'll be just great if the speed doesn't "wear off". I'm most impressed by what I've seen of Invision so far, but krissel's right.
Caution with the "bells and whistles", we wouldn't want to install so many that it defeats the object of the exercise: a faster  TS.

Hey, Al!

What is that?! Some kind of talk while laying naked on a table

You know, when you start 'publishing' everybody becomes your critic!

Also:
Seems to be a common problem on all these products that the screen needs 'refreshing' after all images are downloaded. Not usually a real problem and TechSurvivor is so quick (if it does this refreshing) I don't see it here. It also helps to have a light colored page to begin with, like Al's and Karl's. I recently joined a board that uses "vBulletin Version 2.2.7" and the owners have a black background. So every time a new page loads, I get several blinding BLACK/WHITE/BLACK/WHITE/BLACK screen flashing! Very irritating! If it gets much worse I'll simply 'resign!' I think the owners are old PC (even Apple II) users, remember when screens were all black with white text?!

Thanks Al!

I've had that issue with IE many times. There's even a post about it here at TS from loooong ago. (no time to search for it now). It seemed to have been resolved with Jag and the last update. It would cause that particular re-draw problem when using a scroll wheel.

Al , after reading the thread at the skin site regarding the browser problem I was amazed that they didn't even have a Mac. With a skin that looks so much like OS X I assumed they were Mac people.
Guess they just ripped off the look.

kps?  I'm getting a 404 file not found error on your BB.  What happened?

Regarding the IE browser anomoly with the OS X skin, it is not a refresh error.  It happens to all post pages, even on IBFSkinned's site.  But I do know about the refresh problem we were all having in the past with IE.

You know Krissel, looking at it that way, I kinda agree, I didn't understand it myself that they didn't have or use a Mac.
