Tough to make a specific recommendation, prices are constantly dropping and cameras are getting beter and better.

I'm sure you can get quite a camera for your $500. I'd go with a camera known to work with Macs and OS X, something that captures 3+ - 4+ megapixels, uses standard compact flash cards and is known to contain good quality CCDs. Personally, I wouldn't venture outside the well known brands...Nikon, Canon, Fuji, Olympus...possibly Minolta and Pentax which also have digicams. I like my Nikon Coolpix, even though it's an older discontinued model. The 5000 series are nice, so are the Fuji FinePix and the Olympus Camedia line. Canon is also coming out with some nice updated digicams like the G5.

Best I can do is point you to this site:

Hey Bob, I use an Olympus 550zoom but will be upgrading soon.
I've used these, i like the Olympus c50 so far in a compact. There's so many choices it's not easy. I used Sony compact but found my hands got in the way. Some folks like Canons or Nikons, I just haven't gotten to use them yet.

Check out the Sony Mavica CD cameras. The write to a mini-CD,which allows you to archive all of your photos is a manageable space.  I have a Mavica CD1000, now out of production, but there are others.  One CD can hold up to 150 pictures.

After doing a good bit of reading, reviews, posts, etc, I decided on the FujiFilm FinePix 3800. Buy.com had it for $209.00 after rebates, and the November issue of Consumer Reports rated it the best 3 MegaPixel digital camera. Got it yesterday. A little more to get used to then the Kodak, but the pics are great, printing also.

Thanks for the replys.

bobw,

I got the FujiFilm FinePix 2800 2.1mp for my birthday in June.

I was looking at the FujiFilm FinePix 3800 the other day. It's a nice one.

Good price, good choice, good camera. Enjoy! smile.gif
