Those Cubbies are looking good!!!

The first major league game I ever went to was at Wrigley Field.  We lived in Des Plaines, a suburb of Chicago, for a couple of years back in 1956.  Those were my Little League years, so I was a baseball fanatic at the time.

I've been a Dodger and Angel fan for a long time here in L.A., but I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the Cubs.  What a game that was tonight.  The Marlins put up a good fight, but it wasn't enough this time.

The Cubs got lucky last night. Don't worry, the next three games belong to the marlins.

As for the yankees/red sox games, go sox. I can't stand the yankees (the mindset of many people). Did you know the yankees opening day player salary was over $40 million HIGHER than the next high team's? I think $40 million was more than the ENTIRE Brewers palyers salaries.

I grew up in the Berkeley-Hillside area of the western suburbs close to Des Plaines back in the 50's.
I'm still a Cubs fan. smile.gif

Mrious_be, what kind of U.S. baseball coverage do you get in Belgium?  Is baseball a big sport there?

I'd love to see a Cubs-Red Sox World Series.  The two oldest parks in the majors (I think).  I'll never forget when the Dodgers traded Pedro Martinez away.  He and his brother Ramon were both Dodger pitchers at the time.  I always felt Pedro had more potential than Ramon.  Pedro was very "raw" at the time, but he had exciting stuff even then.

Mike, I can't stand the Yankees either.  They've got a lot of great talent and I respect their ability, but I always feel like they can just buy whatever they want.  It's a turn-off.  I haven't followed the Marlins much this year, except when they were fighting it out for the wild-card with the Dodgers and others.  All I remember is that the Marlins seemed to keep winning and the Dodgers could never gain any ground.  Pudge Martinez has been a one-man wrecking crew lately for the Marlins.  What a player.

Gary, I'm not familiar with the Berkeley-Hillside area, but I was so young when we were in Des Plaines that I wasn't aware of surrounding towns.  The main other town I can remember is Park Ridge.  Let's beat those Marlins again today!

 Actually, and i'm talking Europe in general, it's not a big deal here, and we don't have much (if any) reports on the USA games (where baseball is still big and huge).
But the thing is that Smiley (member on TS) is living in Boston, and she got bitten by the virus cause of her sis and now i got bitten cause of Smiley biggrin.gif

Was just realising, i'm moving from one of the oldest towns in Belgium (Antwerp) the one of the oldes cities in USA (Boston)... what is that? hehehe biggrin.gif

Let me tell you, I'm kind of in disbelief. I never thought I'd see the Cubs in the world series in my lifetime!

It's always been "wait till next year" but they are getting closer. One more win and they are in.

I've always felt that the Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox would be the ultimate world series because neither one has won in so long. i hope Boston can pull it off somehow against the Yankees. I'd settle for the Cubbies and the Yanks though. smile.gif

I remember a post where I expressed my desire to see the Cubs and Boston in a World Series in my lifetime about a year or so ago but I can't find it by doing a search.

Maybe it will happen! biggrin.gif

Hey Mrious, baseball and love go together real nice.  Good luck on getting to Boston soon!!

On my way to work (I work on Sunday), I heard the first inning and Beckett set the Cubs down in order.  Quite a change from the first inning in the other games.  Hmmm, I thought to myself, this guy sounds pretty good today.  I didn't get a chance to check on the game until it was over.  Wow, a 2-hitter.

Can't win 'em all.  But 3-2 still looks good.  And they're back at Wrigley on Tuesday.

He sure pitched a great game for the Marlins! sad.gif Almost unhittable.

Well we have 2 more games to try and get into the Series and I'm glad Prior and Woods
are ready. The Cubs can use both of them Tuesday night if they need to.....of course they're gonna have to score some runs too.

Well, the fans at the game(s) in Chicago will be glad the series went 6 (or 7?) games so the Cubs have a chance to clinch at home. I was hoping for a 4-1 outcome so that Prior would be ready to go for Game 1. Meanwhile, the Yanks and Sox can have as many more rainouts as necessary before deciding their series in a Game 7.
