10.2.8 updater & Flash
« on: October 13, 2003, 08:40:07 AM »
In case you missed it (and care), 10.2.8 (even the combo updater) most always replaces the current Macromedia Flash Player v7.0 R14 with the former version-6.0 R79. The only fix is to reinstall v 7.0 R14 http://www.macromedia.com/software/flashplayer/

Do you notice any difference between 10.2.6 and 10.2 8? I haven't upgraded mine yet and was wondering if you noticed anything different.

I really did not notice much difference on my machine (DP 800). I think most "improvements" were for stability, security, and are behind the scenes. A couple of exceptions (though I suppose there are more), the Keyboard & Mouse and now united in the System Preferences, and in Safari, the minimum size font is now ~9 point (I'm guessing), e.g., sites with microscopic fonts are once again easy reading for these old eyes.

FWIW, The new TinkerTool 3.01 (10.3 compatible) allows one to once again set Safari's minimum font to any size that warms your heart. There are also many other nice improvements (IMNHO).

Thanks for the heads up on Flash!

It was wiped out the first time I updated to OS 10.2.8 and I forgot about it this time around when I re-installed the combo update.

Thanks.  I downloaded version 7, installed and repaired permissions.  Ever since installing and using Safari in all its versions, every time a site (page) having Flash content is opened, I get the following message:

QUOTE
The page “Canon EOS-10D/D60/D30 Forum: Digital Photography Review” has content of MIME type “application/x-shockwave-flash”. You do not have a plug-in installed for this MIME type, but one should be available on this page:

http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/downlo...=ShockwaveFlash

Do you want to open the page?

Early on, I assumed the Beta nature of Safari just didn't support Flash. If interested in the content, I opened Internet Explorer to view those pages.  But, with no other TS'ers mentioning the problem, I assume the problem lies within my PISMO Powerbook 500MHz running OS 10.2.8.

Anyone have an idea as to why the installed Flash plug-in does not work with Safari on my PB?
Dave

Is there any special thing that a person has to do to download version 7 of flash? I have gone to the macromedia site to download version 7 of flash several times and different days with no luck. It never leave the homepage of macromedia. I just thought I am going to tty on versiontracker, although versiontracker will probable send me to the macromedia download site which i an unable to get to. wallbash.gif

Jenny, This oughta do it: http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/downlo...=ShockwaveFlash

I just tried the .hqx DL and it worked as advertised. But if you are still having problems, email me & I'll send it to you.

While it appears as though no others have a problem with the Flash Player not working with Safari, I am closing the loop by reporting that Flash Player started to function normally with Safari on my PB as soon as an early version of Safari Enchancer was deleted.  smile.gif

I do not know if  updating to the latest version of Safari Enhancer would have solved the conflict, and I do not plan to find out. rolleyes.gif I forgot the early version was installed until "Find" discovered it.
