Virtual PC

The question says it all...  How well does emulation software work these days (Virtual PC 3.0 or 4.0 is recommended...) and is anyone using Virtual PC online?

Is there a particular flavor of Windows that I should consider when ordering VPC?

Sorry Mayo, I  can't remember what mac you are using.

Bottom line is you need a very fast mac with lots of Ram.  I have Virtual PC 6.x   On my iMac 800 with 512MB of ram.  It works and that is the best I can say.  If you absolutely have to run a windows program it will usually run, but slowly.

I would advise using the oldest version of Windows that will run whatever program you wish to run  (I use Windows 98.  XP would just be too much for my system to handle.

Mayo,

I use VPC 6 to operate my Garmin GPS V since Garmin refuses (and they are nasty when you ask them) to support the Mac. I run it on my dual 1GHz Mac using OS 10.2.4. I connect to the Garmin GPSV via a USB-to-Serial link (IOGear) (I can't wait until Microsoft/Intel drop the serial port sticking it to garmin). I have just downloaded LinktoGPS which is supposed to allow the GPS V to operate directly with the Mac without VPC. If that works.

Since Microsoft bought VPC frpm Connectix, there is a belief that they will drop VPC. Also, I understand VPC will not run on the G% and/or Panther. I will be checking that out when I get my G5 up and running.
