kps, did you notice that page the article is on has the most annoying ad I've ever seen. It readjusts itself to the center of the page, sometimes duplicating itself. In doing so it covers the text .

 Man, some webmaster should fired.

FWIW, I did not see any 'floating' ad that 'obscured the article text' using IE 5 in OS 8.6 ('visiting' on the 'family' G3 in the den...)

Using Mozilla I see an ad, but it doesn't move around, and it's not in the centre of the page or obscuring text.

That's funny...No matter how much I twist and turn the Technology and Business section of today's SF Chron no ad appears on the page, much less one that floats around.  I don't know what is in the coffee you drink with your morning paper, but I want some!

But seriously, this is San Francisco/California, so what do you expect?  In Bagdad By The Bay things have seemingly been moving around under their own volition for many years.  It is one of the endearing features of the place.

Sorry krissel

Using NS 7.1 and the only problem I had was refusing cookies. Hope it isn't the NJ water, on the other hand if it is; what better excuse to have a beer.

Krissel - Just had the same problem (OS9.1, IE 5.1.6). If said webmaster can't make it work for IE there just ain't no hope for him/her
