Any reasons not to update Jaguar?
« on: February 02, 2003, 09:29:00 PM »
Does anyone have any reasons why they haven't update Jaguar from 10.2 or 10.2.1 to the latest 10.2.3?  What should one expect by updating?  How is there better functionality?  Speed improvements?  Bugs?

As a non-expert, unfamiliar with the interior intricacies of Jaguar, BUT as a satisfied "owner/operator" (make that lessee} of X, I've followed Apple's update recommentations to the letter.

Remembering "updates" of olde that sometimes made things really worse (in browsers, especially) I had some early apprehensions. But, Apple makes its 10 updating so painless, I suggest (make that urge) doing so . . . and not looking back.

FWIW

I personally have had no problems Updating to 10.2.2

I'm holding off on 10.2.3 for now but that's just me.

What you need to do is make daily visits to macintouch.

They are up to Mac OS X Reader Reports: Jaguar Part 45

http://www.macintouch.com/mosxreader10.2pt45.html

http://www.macintouch.com/

They will discuss incompatabilities and fixes of the various Updates.

Daily visits here wouldn't hurt either.

CSonni, updating to 10.2.3 cured a couple of problems that I was having; one with my new printer, and one with the sound that I was getting from PlaythroughFX(although it still occasionally goes "South" on me. . .).  Other than that, it's performing wonderfully!  Hope you're happy with your move to Jaguar.

kelly's quite right, but MacInTouch is one of those sites of encylopaedic proportions! If you don't read it every day, that's a lot of reading.
I tend myself to look here and at say MacFixit and a few other places to see if any major "issues" are being reported before taking the plunge.
And often, I just take the plunge anyway since, as Dick says, it usually proves painless.

Differences?
I have noticed improvements with the print manager, OpenGL (in as much as I can tell) and with my iDisk, though I don't know whether the latter's due to the 10.2.3 update or not.
Oh yes, and my British dictionary now works properly if ever I remember to use it.

Here's what Apple says changed.
"Be like water" - become music.

I've had some problems with Jaguar (see "Sometimes it pays to complain"). But since this is a problem not even Apple has ever heard of I don't expect that anyone else experiences similar problems.

As for the sub-updates (10.2.x) I ususally always install the lastest version and so far was always happy.

Hey kelly! Do you have a new Mac? Didn't know you were running OS X.

Jaguar DOES run classic.
It's only the latest Macs that don't support OS 9 booting (they still support classic, though).
