nikki,

I've been noticing the same thing with 10.2.8 lately too. So maybe it isn't the OS.

I've been thinking maybe i need to upgrade Stuffit or something.

Could you folks give an example of a place that does not work? I have not found this problem, but I may be going to the wrong web sites. What happens when it does not down load?

Do you get an error message?  I have found that I get an error message when trying to FTP from a server that is too busy. Sometimes it says it could not connect. Other times I just get an error message or it just times out.  When you are having that problem copy the URL and paste it into IE and see if you get some feedback. I was having time outs , and error messages with a site. When I tried IE and netfinder they told me the server had too many users connected. Safari was not giving any useful feedback. I sent a bug report to Apple about this earlier this morning.

Another possibility could be that the web pages you are using try to open the download in a pop up window and you have them blocked. Test this by unchecking the "Block Pop-Up Windows" in the Safari menu.

Thanks
Guy

This is normally caused by the server that site is on not handling file types correctly. This was a big time problem when Apple first introduced the .dmg format. Very few servers were set up to handle it, so you had to tell the browser to download what was at the link. If you didn't, a bunch of incomprehensible text would show (probably the encoding for the file, make into acsii text).

you might have to contact the people who run the web sites, and let them know of the problem.

Ok, I finally got it. ZeroLink is a part of the development tools, used to help debug and compile code faster. I had to turn that off in some crazy place, and now it properly works on my iBook. Only drawbacks to it seem to be much slower compile times, and a larger application. However, I guess that is the price you pay for compatibility.

So, now that I have that figured out, could you please try it one more time. The new file is at   http://www.bhsweb.dk/giantmike/newDiveTableX.hqx

Thanks a ton for your help!

THIS SITE ABOVE GIVES ME A BLANK page when I click on the url.

On my Panther/Safari system in opened a blank page and then opened the Downloads window and downloaded the file. Then it opened stuffit and unstuffed the "DiveTable X.sit" file and created aa folder called "DiveTable X". It worked great! I do not have "Block Pop-Ups" checked in the Safari menu. It also works with "Block Pop-Ups Checked". Nikki have you opened the "Downloads" from the "Window" menu to make sure it is not downloading but putting it somewhere that you don't expece it to?
Thanks
Guy

No it downloads to the desktop when I use the option key and the ones that do work are on the desktop.
Could it be StuffitExpander,?

I had a old copy of Speeddowload installed that expired. Found this out by looking at the pluggins for safari.
Trashed that pluggin and all is well. Does anyone know where these downloads go in Speeddownload, can;t find them.
I must have a pile of stuff where ever they downloaded to.

wallbash.gif I just heard of a similar problem with Safari and downloads. the solution there was to to trash speed download as well. I should have thought of that!  oops.gif
