OT: How does this work?!
« on: December 22, 2003, 07:23:42 PM »
OK, I know there is no such thing as a program that can report who I send/forward emils to. I know there is no such thing as magic (excepting the feeling I have with my wife!). But there are illusions! And I can't figure out this one!

Pick a card
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system
CAUTION! Childhood vaccinations cause adults!

Hi..smile.gif

I once won a T-shirt for being the first to answer this.

The "trick" is that the programmer figures you'll only look at one card. Most people don't look at them all. No matter which you look at, it will be gone when the cards return.

They will be replaced with cards of like color but ALL the suites will be changed...effectively removing the card you chose..and all the other possible choices you could have made.

*grin..pretty cool trick

see ya,

It took me a minute, but I figured it out.  Think about it ... the only way he can always get your card right is if he removes all of the cards from the first selection of cards.  I used my Canon digital camera to take a snapshot of the first screen.... the card choices are King of hearts, Jack of Clubs, king of Spades, Queen of Diamonds, and J of Diamonds.

The second list of cards are Q hearts, K clubs,  J hearts Q spades K diamonds

I see Dianna got in while I was typing   tongue.gif

Card tricks aren't much fun after you see how simple the illusions are.

It's an illusion.

The second group of cards is totally different than the first group of cards, so no matter which card you pick it won't be there the second time.  wink.gif He doesn't leave them up too long the second time after you make your pick.

Cards to select from:

•K-hearts
•J-clubs
•K-spades
•Q-diamonds
•Q-clubs
•J-diamonds

After you pick:

•Q-hearts
•K-clubs
•J-hearts
•Q-spades
•K-diamonds

So simple!!! So the 'trick' is to get you to concentrate on the card you want to look for, not the whole group. And the group is large and similar enough to make it a little harder to remember them all anyway.

I knew you guys would come through with flying colors! And I can now assure my wife that this thing really can't see what's on the other side of the screen! toothgrin.gif She really didn't like the fact that she tried it twice and he 'guessed' the card both times!

Gotta go now, I just found out that I won a contest, need to go to the bank to get some cash to send to pay the taxes. T sure hope they can give me some Russion currency! blush-anim-cl.gif

It is a neat piece of distraction (= "magic") is it not?

So slick, probably not 1 in 10,000 observers will object to the speed with which the cards in the second "presentation" are removed from view/comparison. . . after all, "he" was able to pick "my" card! rolleyes.gif

Diana,
Gotta make 'em simpler for me! blush-anim-cl.gif
I see four sentences/instructions and a square.
One of the sentences says to find 'the' symbol that matches the number.
Next sentence says to "Concentrate on the symbol and click on the magic square..."
While there is a visible square, it doesn't appear to be 'magic' nor is it a clickable link.

What are the symbols I'm supposed to see?! wallbash.gif

hhmm, I actually had that same problem with Mozilla, I just forgot. Using IE on WinXP it works as it should. I think it is the javascript that doesn't work well.

I'll be curious if anyone can see it. I may be able to redo it to make it more friendly..I'll see.

That's one of those math sequences where the answer is always known. No matter what digit you pick you would end up with either 81, 72, 63, 54, 45, 36, 27, 18, 9, or 0.

Whatever letter or symbol is associated with these numbers (and they are all the same) is the answer. Each time the board changes the associated letter is changed. All the other stuff is garbage to confuse you.
