Setting up a RAM Disk in Jaguar
« on: January 04, 2004, 10:20:35 AM »
I've been using a small RAM disk (~4MB) for my browser cache for many years, and I'd like to do this again w/ Jag and Safari but i canna' find any where to set this up!

Searching @ Apple and several of the dedicated OS-X websites has turned up nothing:  no tips, tricks, information, shareware, workarounds, nada.

Izzdiss one of those capabilities that Apple has not yet implemented in X, or is there some inherent architechtural limitation in UNIX that precludes this feature?

TIA,

From my little understanding of UNIX, I think that just like OS X doesn't use virtual memory, it also does not support a RAM disk. All RAM has to be a physical chip.

Thnask fur the suggestions, guys!

I czeched-out Panther Cache Cleaner, and it's got WAY more bells and whistles than I'm looking for, but the developer looks to have a whole bunch o' really neat Mac stuff.

RamBunctious looks to be exactly what this doctor ordered, and I used to use it way back w/ OS 8, so it's familiar and sort of friendly...

Now I jussed knead to finger out how to re-config Safari's default cache, iffitt Cannes Bea Dunne atoll...
