Do not fear your enemies.  The worse they can do is kill you.  Do not fear friends.  At worst, they may betray you.
Fear those who do not care; they neither kill nor betray, but betrayal and murder exist because of their silent consent.

OK guys...every time I go there, I get a 404 message. EVERY TIME. I've emptied the cache...refreshed, nada in FOUR browsers. Is the uptime for this site is measured in milliseconds? Or is it just me?

And where'd our old eek go? You can't "eek" in yellow!  sad.gif

Paddy, do you have the latest Shockwave plug-in?

Maybe you just have really bad timing?  wink.gif

The yellow eek was requested cause it fit better with our other smilies but if there is a desire to bring back the blue guy, let's hear it....

Latest Shockwave plugin installed. Still nothing. Then I looked at the URL. Why did it have "..." in it? Safari resolved it this way:

jettaped.com/Webboard/File/JettapedTP1387.swf (leaving off the front end, so you can actually see) - so that's ok, but it loads a blank page.

Since I use Safari exclusively these days, I simply copied and pasted the URL as it appeared in the thread in Safari and put that into the IE and Netscape and Camino address lines. Of course, it had the "..." and an extra "t" and refused to resolve. On the other hand, if I go to the thread in IE, while it still appears that the URL has "..." in it, it resolves properly if I click on it, and the URL has no "...".

Beats me. huh.gif

If I copy the URL in here using Safari, this is what I get:

http://www.jettaped.com/Webboard/File/Jett...tapedTP1387.swf

Looks just fine when I copy it - but when I preview it, there are the "..." and the extra "t".

When I type it by hand - same darn thing: http://www.jettaped.com/Webboard/File/Jett...tapedTP1387.swf

So, if any of you are interested in wasting some time finding out why this is happening...it's all yours! And when I check my Shockwave plug-ins in Safari, they appear to be the older (7.0) ones, even though I downloaded and installed 9.0.

Then I went into the Safari help menu and voila - turns out that if you have "block Pop-ups" checked, this page simply won't load. Uncheck that, and it will. Aha. Still doesn't explain the URL though, unless it has something to do with the pop-up business.

Paddy, I experimented with IE 5.1.6, Netscape 7.01 and iCab 2.9.7 and each of them ignore the "..." and resolve to the correct address. Even when the cursor is held over the URL the address readout in the bottom bar doesn't show the dots but the straight URL.

I think the problem with Safari has to do with the fact that the programmer has declared his desire to write the application to the correct specifications and not give in to the "sloppy" resolving that is done by specifically IE.

I note in my iCab prefs that it is using the html transitional 4.0 settings and using the JavaScript identity of IE so that might have something to do with why it resolves the URL OK. Don't know enough about the technicalities to say whether that has any relevance or not.

Another good reason to have several browsers at the ready.   rolleyes.gif
