Download safari & burn CD
« on: January 29, 2004, 08:59:41 PM »
I want to download Safari on my nice fast cable connection and burn that on a CD to take to my friend's computer (she has the worst dial-up). We're both running 10.2.6. She deleted Safari (it's a long story). I download the file from Apple's website, and on my desktop is the  (looks like a zip drive) icon named "Safari, and another icon namd Safari.dmg. If I drag them to a CD, they each turn into an alias with that little arrow. What step am I missing here? Can I just drag my Safari app out of my applications folder, copy that, and install it on her computer? Can I find it somewhere on the OS X CD (Jaguar) which I own? Thanks everybody, Joan

The .dmg is a Disk Image. smile.gif

Either automatically or when you clicked on it it was "mounted".

Press the OPTION key while you drag either one to the CD.

See if that works. smile.gif

It's been awhile since I've had to mess with any OS discs, but does Safari come bundled within OS X someplace? If so, you may be able to use Pacifist (used to be a free download from Versiontracker) just to extract the Safari .pkg and then burn it to CD. I don't know if this would involve licensing issues, but Safari is a free download so hopefully it wouldn't. Just another avenue to explore.
