Monitor Display Area - revisited

This has to do with an earlier post that need not be reopened but I would like to tack this on as an afterthought.

1) Must I always be required to do a "text zoom" or can I nail something other than 100%  down as a 'default' to 120%?

2) I have a "snap to grid" under VIEW - Options
How do I change the physical location of the grid column?  (What I did so far was to go back to a 640 x 480 screen rez which has a different grid. location - - - then changed back to the 832 x 634 and it brought the grid from 640 x 480 forward). Seems to work.  

3) Can I increase the size of my 'icons' to a size larger than the largest one of two sizes shown in the desktop VIEW?

Thank the Lord - - - no one has posted!!!

After I posted the above I went out to snowblow to do another 4" of snow (will it ever end?).

When I came back in my wife was on the phone - so of course I could not go on-line.  Instead I started to review my questions to you all.

(God, this is like going to confession!!!)

I found some answers - - -

On my 9.1 desktop my VIEW menu options explain that I should go to 'preferences'  so I did.

It was there that I saw "3" sizes of Icons to choose from and also a "tighter grid" selection.

I chose to go with the 'buttons' for the first time because they present a more neutral surround when exhibited against the blue happy-face wallpaper.

My only last remaining question is: 'can I do a default lock on the 120% screen zoom?

My wife passed off this saying which I am considering in putting up as my TS signature - - -

"Use it up, wear it out; make it do, or do without." ( I think this is an old German proverb, but I'm a living example being surrounded with all my older Mac stuff).

We lucked out on the latest snow, only about 4". Not even going to bother shoveling...let it sit til Spring.    

Not sure what you mean by text zoom at 120%? In a particular application? Are you using OS 9? X has the ability to adjust the text by points but 9 is only program  specific I believe. For instance you can set the default in IE and Acrobrat to a particular resolution or percentage.

Repeat. Don't worry about Dumb questions or looking foolish.  

Recently had a problem with my 6400.

Reformatted it and copied a burned OS onto it.

But.

Whenever I went to the Finder Menus it made this stupid Flashing before doing anything.

Searched all over the Internet to find what caused it.

Threw away a lot of Preferences, Zapped PRAM etc. etc..

Spent hours and hours on it.    

Turns out it's not a Bug it's a Feature.

That's what that Option is in General Controls is.

Menu Blinking.

I think Pouge said to turn it off in the first book I read.

I've always had that turned off. Not really understanding what it was.

Anyone use that stupid feature?

I used to have that set at one blink to give me a visual acknowledgement that a copy/paste to clipboard had been completed when using keyboard commands. For some strange reason it isn't working at present...not a real problem. Guess I'll trash finder prefs and see if that changes things.

Mike. With regard to your recent questions on this.  

Dan Knight of lowendmac discusses how he's made changes at his site.

Being it's lowendmac, he's set it up to be friendly at 640 x 480.

None of the site's you've had problems with have bothered to do this.
