Oddity with Sound...
« on: March 12, 2003, 08:54:00 AM »
I've noticed something that only happens "sometimes" with my sound (OS9.1 although it happens on OS8.6 too, only more often)...

At times when I've been playing an audio CD or even Quicktime movies, when I'm done I find my 'puter no longer has sound. It happens more often if I've put it to sleep, upon "wake up"... generally a restart fixes it, but not always.

A few tries at it works... a time or two I've found it's become turn off in the Appearance CP or the Sound CP...

Any ideas what's up with that? It can be very annoying!

Well... we can always Blame It On Bernie I suppose Dolphin...

Speaking of whom... he's probably mad at me... I owe him an email...
It's a-comin' Bernie... I promise[/]...

BTW Dolphin do you get the Juno Awards there? It's April 6 and hosted by Shania Twain this year...

The sound thing is a mystery... mostly annoying, not too hard to fix...

I have had similar problems with other devices, usualy USB.  If I unplug and then plug them back in they start working again.  I did a disk repair and they don't happen..............as often.  Oh well.  Don't know if this is relevent to your problem but, just in case you are having a USB problem.

Hi DB!

Ya finely came out of that hot tub huh. What? Got tired of that 6' 4" blond swimming instructor?

Oh yeah ... your sound thingie. See what happens if you dump that prefs.

Thanks for the suggestion Smokin78... but I don't have any USB devices unless one counts my external firewire/usb LaCie pocket drive, it's always in firewire mode on this machine anyway though... much faster.
But you're right in that I don't know "how" many times a person's problems have been traced to USB!

Hey Bill... yeah I'm out of the hot tub now... I called it quits when the guy started expecting me to get out and bring him his beer while freezing to death...    The nerve!

Have trashed the sound prefs... thanks, I'll see if it happens again.

See DB,I told ya (many times) I'd treat you much better than that.
I'd t-e-l-l you to f-e-t-c-h a whole six pack in one trip.
That way you could stay in the hot tub longer and s-e-r-v-e me my suds.
AND you thought I was mean.!. <gr>

Yup Bill... I'll give you the credit for that one... in fact, I had been following that thread, just didn't say anything cause I don't think there's a person left here who doesn't already know my feelings on that anyway!

As to your 6-pack... gosh darn, you just treat me so good! Throw in a pair of slippers to keep my little footsies from getting cold, OK...

Second thought... maybe I can train Spencer to fetch the beer... I can just see it now!

"Fetch! Spencer... fetch!" Dumb looks from dog... "Huh?... I'm 12 years old, got cloudy eyes and didn't anyone tell ya, ya can't teach an old dog new tricks... Git yerself!!"

Hey Dolphin...

Why not try digging around the Juno Awards Homepage to see what you can find.

We get it on CTV... there is a contact I think... near the bottom of the page in itty bitty letters.

I've got one happy sister too, she'll be here in time to watch it with me... she lives at home otherwise and the mother doesn't allow stuff like that on "her" TV...
