"Low Power" Laptop Memory, CoolRAM?
« on: March 16, 2003, 03:31:00 AM »
I keep seeing an ad by a company called Legacy Electronics, Inc., which claims to have laptop SODIMM memory modules which use 30-50% less power, reducing heat and extending battery life.

The memory modules carry the brand name "CoolRAM".

Does anyone know if this claim is even remotely legit?

They have a fancy promotional site at:
http://www.tapintothepower.com/

The companies web site is:
http://www.legacyelectronics.com/

Thanks to anyone with useful information!

Never heard of them but here is some info:

STAYS COOL WHEN THE HEAT IS ON.
Notebook designers have a new, high-density, Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module (SODIMM) option that incorporates Infineon Technologies® extended, low-power Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory (SDRAM) chip. Called CoolRAMTM, this 144-pin Mobile-RAM SODIMM uses a significantly reduced self-refresh current, as well as a lower operating current, lower burst operating current, and lower auto refresh current.

Sounds interesting but don't know if it really makes a difference. Are they more expensive than regular SO-DIMMS?
