Jokes Database
« on: February 03, 2003, 08:41:00 PM »
So I've been collecting some of the jokes you fine folks have been posting and I've been putting them into a simple Filemaker database. There are some other jokes there as well...and some...well quite a number actually, that I had to remove...and some, I probably should have removed, but anyway, I decided to fix it up a little and make a "stand-alone" application out of it. It'll run in OS 9 or in "classic" on OS X, so you don't need FileMaker. The OS X version will come when FileMaker Inc figures out why the Developer Tool keeps crashing on me when I try to bind the file. I'm actually a "case number"...how lovely.

It's a fully functional database, you can add your own jokes or graphics. You can also export the text jokes and share them with others. (graphics will not export)

I'm sure that as I rushed this little tidbit, I made some mistakes, so if you download it, please give me a little feedback as to where I scewed up.

Download the Jokes Database Here

Hi Karl - just checked out your jokes database and found I could only download... couldn't preview on line. Is that as you intended? With a dial-up, 7.1MB is quite a lot

Highmac, it's an application commpressed as a .sit file so unfortunately, no, you can't preview it.

Opens fine in Filemaker 6 on OS X (10.2.3).

But, there's a password prompt. If you don't have a password, you can't modify it.

You don't need Filemaker...it's a runtime app, the FM engine is included, but it was "bound" in OS 9  and yeah, the data file will open in FM Pro on OS X if you own it.

The password only prevents you from creating new fields, layouts or scripts, otherwise it's fully functional.

Jeez, does Adobe let you modify Photoshop???  Okay, so I'm not Adobe...but still.

I get a message that says "The Jokes Solution" can't be opened because "The  Jokes Solution" can't be found (-39) yet of course both are there in the folder.

I know -39 means end of file so I unstuffed it again but got the same message. I guess I'll have to try to download again later.

Could be a bad download, kris, but it could be Stuffit...I compressed it with DropStuff 7.0.1 on OS X.

Worked on my end, BTW.
