AppleWorks date & time question
« on: March 30, 2003, 10:44:00 AM »
In AppleWorks, one can create text documents that will automatically insert the current date and time in the header. These can either be auto-updating, which will continually keep updating the date and time while the document is open, or not auto-updating, which will show the current date & time when that option was selected, but not change afterward.

I need to do something in between. I want to create a stationery that when opened into a new document will display the current date and time when that new document was created, but not change afterward. This doesn't work if I save the stationery with non-auto-updating date & time because then any new documents created from that stationery show the date and time the stationery was created. But if I save the stationery with auto-updating dates & times, any new documents created from them them have continually updating dates and times.

Does anyone know a way to make a stationery in Appleworks that will produce new documents with a readable time & date stamp in the header that, once timestamped, will not automatically update if the document is subsequently opened?

Thank you,

Andrew Gapstr.

Also, for the site editors: In the older version of this site, the button to create a new topic was labeled "post new topic", or something similar. I was a little lost for a few moments because I couldn't find this button before noticing one labeled just "topic". That was the correct button, of course, but this still might be confusing for people who have never posted to this site before. Just an observation.

AppleWorks date & time question

How about writing a script to put the current date/time/color of your shoes in a field just for that. Then use that field in the form/letter/display/etc. No need at all for an auto-updating field (but there are many other uses for one, of course). Then all you do is select the script in the menu or assign it to a button.
