problem with Disk Utility
« on: February 06, 2003, 11:26:00 PM »
Need some help here.  Installed OSX on my G4, upgraded and all.  Checked 2 partitions of another internal drive with Disk Utility on OSX.  Both partitions came up with Bad BSD files.  One partition wasn't bad- Disk Utility repaired it.  But my other partition (where I stored all my files and apps) came up with a huge amount of Bad BSD files.  When I clicked repair, Disk Utility got a little ways and then "Unexpectedly Quit."  Could someone tell me what to do next?  I wonder if I booted into OS9 and tried Disk First Aid, if it would report any problems.  Is it a bad idea to use Disk Utility in OSX to verify and repair other non-X partitions?

I don't think you should use OS 9 Disk First Aid to repair OS X Partitions.

Don't know if it would even run, haven't tried it.

Not sure other direction is a good idea but probably wouldn't hurt anything.

BSD is odd result.

Did you istall the BSD Subsystem software or not?

It's not needed for much but it's needed for Carbon Copy Cloner.

Kelly- I can't really remember if I installed it or not.  I somehow remember it being related to Developer's environment, and if that's the case, no, I didn't install it.  Never thought of that, though.  Anyways, I did boot off of the X CD, and it did finally repair the problems from there, although when repairing, the report was rather jumbled.  Maybe you're right- no real need to repair 9 partitions from X.
