Mouse suggestions for iBook (my new laptop!)

All of us teachers in spec ed received a new laptop! Woo hoo!

Most of us are right handed, and the USB port is on the left side of the laptop.

One of my colleagues looked at the "retractable cord" mouse, and thought the cord was fairly flimsy and short, tho there was also an 6' extension for the mouse cord.  He also looked at the cordless mouse that takes batteries.  There was a third mouse too, that had a sturdier cord that was also long enough for us right-handers.  I'm sure there are more kinds out there.

Could anyone share with me info about a good, reliable, easy-to-use-and-keep mouse for a laptop, or any comments about the ones described above?  

Also, we're gonna be letting our fingers do the walking in the yellow pages to see the prices locally, unless someone could recommend a place for ordering these cheaper on-line?

Cheaper than Apple Education? Hmmm..not sure.

At Apple, you can BTO your iBook and get the shipping free.

At online stores, you can get tax-free if they don't have a store in your state. And sometimes you can get free shipping..maybe. But you can't BTO from the majority of them..and if you can, it costs you extra.
With that, check out SmallDog, PowerMax,MacZone, MacMall for prices. Don't get suckered in on the free stuff...usually they are the bottom of the barrel stuff.

As for the mouse..you might want to wait. I switched from a powermac to a powerbook and thought I would desperately need a mouse as there was no way I could get used to a trackpad! So I got the Kensington mouse with the retractable cord (optical mouse). Great one but in reality, I don't use it. I have gotten so used to this keyboard and trackpad that when I do hook up the mouse, I don't like it! Strange for me! LOL

And I LOVE my little Kensington mouse and only use the trackpad when my iBook is on my lap.  I use the programmed buttons quite a bit and the scroll wheel less often.

You will know soon after you start using the iBook what suits you best.

I've used PowerBooks and iBooks for five or six years now, and have always felt that I need a "real" keyboard and a "real" mouse.

I'm using an Apple Pro keyboard and a Logitech USB optical two-button scroll mouse. I believe the mouse is $9.95 at such stores as CompUSA, BestBuy, etc.

Works for me!
