Lost Preferences Settings (IEX)

Internet Explorer won't maintain preferences I enter anymore, such as a new file helper or form autocomplete data.

It is Internet Explorer 5.2.2 and running on MacOS X (10.2.5). I don't know exactly when it began, but early this week I had gone to a web site where I had been many times before and when I typed the first few letters of my user name, assuming the rest would be auto filled, nothing happened. I entered them in the preferences, saved out of it and it worked during that session. Today I attempted to log into the site again and the pref was gone.

Corrupt prefs file or stale caches perhaps, can't be certain.

Here are two things you may try, but I can't guarantee success...trash the prefs file and/or clear the caches using  Jaguar Cache Cleaner.

And therein lies one of my biggest fears with OS X, where do I go for the prefs files? I was intimately familiar with MacOS 9 but there are several places (i.e. libraries) in MacOS X.

I had read in MacWorld that you should tread lightly when disposing of things is MacOS X so it has thrown the fear of God in me. Are preferences just as harmless in X as they were in previous OS's?

In the Finder, open the Find (command-f) window and type in explorer. The results should show  com.microsoft.explorer.plist at the top of the list.
