My PowerCenter Pro is based on the 7200 series Mac.

I am currently running OS 9.2.2 on it.

This is good, kelly.  I was wondering if I could put 9.0 on my Performa 6205CD. I don't want it on my beige G3 tower because I'll lose my Apple Video Player functionality that I have with 8.6.  But can I put it on the Performa?  I wasn't sure.

Also, some time recently you put up a link to a Dealmac Powerbook, which was a good buy.  I saw an iBook on the same page, for $499, and I'm thinking that would have been a good one, but I passed it up, and now can't find it again.  The iBook would give me the iMovie software that I crave.

Just reading at various places.

Lorraine. That's most likely a Clamshell iBook.

Won't do what you want.

You should have grabbed that Pismo.

Or get one of the newer iBooks.

http://new.lowendmac.com/ibook/ideals.html

Just because you might be able to put OS 9.x on that Performa you shouldn't.

The most would be OS 8.6 If you have the full 64 MBs RAM.

Lorraine. Apple just Upgraded the iBooks.

The new lowend model is $999.

These have a CD-ROM and not a "Burner".

For that you get:

800MHz PowerPC G3

512K L2 cache @800MHz

128MB SDRAM memory

30GB Ultra ATA drive

ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 w/32MB Vram

CD-ROM

Built-in 56K v.92 modem

Airport ready

Apparently these will still Boot in OS 9.x

http://new.lowendmac.com/pb2/ibook900.html

Aside from this. The older models should get even cheaper.

Have you had a chance to handle a newer iBook?

Do you like them?

Someone posted a link to a similar chart for Netscape Navigator/Communicator compatibility with Mac OS versions. I've tried to search for the thread, but don't have a good phrase to find it with. I'd like to know what they think the highest version is that will run on OS 9.2.2

Netscape gurus, here's your invitation to show off!

Boy, I'm glad I got back to this string before I went ahead & tried to put 9 on my Performa!  Thanks, as always, kelly!

No, I've never handled an ibook.  I have 3 macs, the G3 tower, Performa, and an original iMac (turquoise).  The latter never came with a floppy drive, and had to buy one, which never worked properly.  My daughter would send her data to another computer to save it on a floppy.

Now is that still missing from the newest iBooks?  That $999 is awfully tempting.  But I would have to add a zip drive, right?

Gregg...

You called for a Netscape guru?

Well, I don't pretend to know it all, especially past NS4.8, but so far as I know "any" NS should run on OS9.2.2 including the 4.x and 7.x versions... for 7.x you would just choose the PPC or Classic version...

There's a list of all NS versions here that are OK for MacOS7.61 and PPC:

Neither the Pismo or iBook have Floppy drives.

No macs have since about 1998 or so.

You could get a USB ZIP Drive to use with either if you felt the need.

Or else... I just love my LaCie Firewire Pocketdrive...

You could check places like www.smalldog.com
The "smaller" ones are reasonable now!

They have reasonable (to me anyway)... external 100mb Zip's too.

Lorraine. You need to see an iBook in person to see if you like it.

I suggest that model without CD/R only to save money.

You would almost certainly want a CD/R sooner or later.

Movie files with iMovie become Gigabytes in size quite easily.

Thanks for the link, Dreamie. I marked it. I haven't had any trouble with my new NS 4.8 but haven't worked up the courage to try 7.02 yet. I think it was 7.01 that I tried a few months back, and it just didn't work.

kelly, I have an old Mac TV, and as I recall I stopped at NS 4.02 on that. I did upgrade the OS to 7.5.5 when that became a free download. That's a bit too old for the chart in your link.
