2008 / Mp3 and Me-Help
« on: February 09, 2008, 11:45:35 AM »
Hi,
I am thinking about getting an mp3 player. I could use some advice on which to get. I have an older g5 with plenty of ram and disk. It
is running 10.3.9 and I don't want to upgrade right now. The problem seems to be, which units will work with this machine. I have looked at
the 3rd generation nano and like its looks. I know you need 10.4 for itunes to sync files, but I don't know if it will work with 10.3.9
without auto sync. I have looked at Sansa View and like the fact it has an FM radio. Will either or both of these units work with 10.3.9
and are there other machines you can recomend which will work. I am looking to spend about $200. and want to get 8 or 16gb.Thanks for the help.

SIncerely

2006 / Adding a second internal drive to my G5!
« on: November 30, 2006, 06:34:50 PM »
HI,
I last added an internal drive to my 9500. It was SCSI and I had to deal with address, etc. What do I need to know to ad a 200 gig drive to my G5. I run 10.3.9 and it is not a dual. What about the master/slave issue. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks for the help!
Sincerely

It currently has a 60 gig internal and a external usb and a firewire drive.

2003 / Reel to Reel Tape to Digital, CD/DVD questions
« on: June 10, 2003, 02:26:13 PM »
I am concidering putting a collection of Live traditional music on DVD as a way to digitize it for future use and to make sure it survives the mylar tape it currently lives on. I have a 9600(233HZ)  with 256 M ram running on OS 8.6.
I have several questions about the process of converting reel to reel tapes to digital.
1. What can I expect in terms of minutes of tape running time to CDs or DVDs as data files and is saving them as data files the best way to preserve them for later possible editing. Much of the tapes are 7" reels and I am guessing they were recorded at 3.25 or 7.5 IPS.
2. Will the 9600 I have do the job.
I am sure I should be asking questions that I am not knowledgeable enough to know I need to ask. I am a preforming musician with good mac skills but no specific mac CD or DVD burning experience. I have a LaCie cd burner and will probably need a DVD burner if I preceed.
3. Will Toast be a good program to use to burn these tapes to digital.
Any help will be most appreciated. I have not decided for sure if this is a project I want to tackle and I would appreciate any suggestions available. I don't want to do this project unless I know beforehand that there is a good chance of success in a reasonable amount of time.
Thanks
Sincerely
Dick Zion
