Sata and ide connectors are different. I found out the hard way. Does anyone need a 2.5" IDE external case. I have one that is unused.

2006 / Second thoughts about getting RAM
« on: September 07, 2006, 12:42:40 PM »
I have a soft spot for Samsung ram and have never been dissapointed.  I would think that ram from any quality manufacturer that states that it is for that particular computer would be satisfactory.  you might keep in mind that Apple like any assembler, does not manufacture their own components.

2006 / A 100Gb 7200 rpm 2,5" drive for iBook
« on: September 06, 2006, 02:48:05 PM »
I have found it to be excellent.  Much faster the the 5400 rpm that came originally. I put the 5400 in an external case for a backup drive.

Thats the drive I put in my Toshiba laptop. I also installed 2-1Gb 667Mhz ram cards,  all for about half the price Apple would have charged if I had purchased an Apple laptop.

I think we are all aware that nothing is for ever,  but that was not the point of the thread.

I went through two reliant gas water heaters in 3yrs.  I have had the G.E. heater in for 4 yrs with no problems.  I do my own hauling and installing,  was ripped of once by a reputable plumbing company, never again.

2006 / Mac vs. Dell

That may be in the super elite end of the spectrum,  but how does the differential stand in the reality of the everyday business and personal user level? Comparing $8,000 laptops is a bit trite eh what.

2006 / Hard Drive enclosures
« on: July 21, 2006, 02:24:45 PM »
Be sure what your drive is (ide or sata) and I would suggest an enclosure that has both USB2 and FW.  That would be covering all of your future bases.
I bought a 2.5" enclosure for my laptop that was ide and it turned out my hd is sata, so off to ebay I guess.  doh.gif

2006 / PC HD Sanitizing
« on: July 17, 2006, 11:02:39 AM »
Thanks again gunug for your extended efforts on my behalf.  I also bookmarked the url from today.  It looks like my needs will be well addressed.  I find it somewhat humerous that my pc concerns were handled so well on a Mac board, whereas they were ignored on the pc boards that I contacted. It shows that TS is a well organized and considerate community.  cheer.gif

I neglected to ask if the external enclosure was firewire or USB?

It is USB 2.0
