Tech / Suddenly my iMac freezes
« on: June 06, 2014, 04:16:56 PM »
I have the same computer.  I have Micromats Checkmate software installed an it shows that my computer doesn't have a internal battery.

This may not mean anything but a few months ago the original HD in mine went bad an had to replace it.  A Hard drive in beginning stages of failure could cause freeze ups.  The surface scan passing eliminates the hard drive I guess.

No Paddy I have not installed any of those.  My HD in 500 GB.  My iMac is a 2008 model an I have the ram maxed at 4 gig.  I wasn't aware that was the minimum requirement for Maverick so yes that could be what I am seeing.  Thanks for the information about the Activity Monitor.  General use of the computer is fine.  Just noticed a decline in performance on a couple online multiplayer games I use the computer to play. I closer out other programs before playing these games. Thanks, very helpful information! My computer information is provided under, My Mac info.  The OS is outdated, I am running Maverick now.

Anyone familiar with MacBooster?  MacBooster

My iMac had been acting slower then its usual self. I have recently upgraded to Maverick.  So I thought maybe a virus or something since I have never owned an antivirus program I did a search an found MacBooster.

I do own TechTool but not sure if it can do what MacBooster can.

Thanks!

Tech / External Hard Drive

I guess my first link is designed to stack with a Mac Mini but I like the looks of it.  Here is another drive on OWC.  http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/MAU4S7S1TB32/

Tech / External Hard Drive

Wanting opinions on external hard drives for storage.  I am needing one to backup family pictures, videos and music.  I realize videos take up lots of space I don't plan on putting a lot of those on the drive because of that.  I may keep some on tape of burn to DVD to prevent the drive from filling up.  Looks like OWC has different options for this but I came across this and wondered if it would be a good one.  http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/ministack_classic/

Thanks,

Tech / iPad run over by PT Cruiser
« on: February 11, 2011, 04:33:16 PM »
As some here may remember.  My niece had the same thing happen to her iPod touch.  After getting run over by a car all was fine except the glass.  It helped that the ipod was face down when run over.  I would be curious to know which way that iPad was lying when it was run over.  Anyway, I replaced the glass on the iPod touch and it has been working fine since.

I can relate, Daryl.  My wife would love to have a new iPhone.  The monthly fee is much more than I want to pay.

We too have an older plan but with AT&T.

It seems like there are more monthly fees these days than ever.

Tech / Will OS 9 run on an Intel partion?
« on: January 11, 2011, 07:14:25 PM »
My nephew just bought a new Macbook which he recently updated to system 10.6.6.  He has been a casual Mac user since he was little due to my influence on my brother, which is his dad.  Started out on a Performa which he still has and occasionally starts up for giggles.

He asked me if it was possible to run system 9.1 on a separate partition.  Is that possible on an Intel Mac?

2009 / Would like opinions
« on: November 21, 2009, 09:21:50 AM »
Good idea, Paddy.  After the lightning strike, if I remember right, the computer would still power on but the mouse and keyboard wouldn't work.  I think the usb ports are part of the logic board, correct? I remember the log in screen coming up on screen but I couldn't type.

I agree the mini would be the safest bet.  As for working on the iMac, I did open it, with instructions found on the internet, and took out the hard drive.  Wasn't too bad.  Although, I have never replaced a logic board.
