Wishing  to know if I had received his e-dispatch to me, he (and I) were required to wait . . . and wait . . . and wait, while Adobe made sure I knew everything unnecessary about its application, its couple of dozen patent numbers, its embedded PSE 3.0 bells-and-whistles, in a perplexingly lengthy display (for the 1000th time)! for all I know or care, the parking regulations and cafeteria prices at Corporate might be included in that irritating mess!

I am late to this thread. The way to speed up Photoshop Elements is to reduce unnecessary plugins.

I have an alternative solution... (avoid using Photoshop Elements when not needed.)

If you don't need to edit the image, you can simply use OS X's built-in Preview to view the image. It's a lot faster.
Simply select an image then View Info, under Open with, change it to "Preview", and apply "Change All".

If there are JPEG images that you wish to open in Photoshop Elements, you can drag it to Photoshop Elements or use context click(*) and Open With.

(*)context click is commonly known as right click.

If your edits are something basic (e.g. does not require any filters/effects), you can try ImageWell (it's quick and free).

My 7.01 cents.

A happy Photoshop Elements user. (I don't have full Photoshop.)

have yet to find any Adobe product that loads in a reasonably fast time. Try Acrobat Pro, etc. I believe, like others on this thread, that Adobe products contain so many plugins, library additions, etc that they will always be a loading "bear".

George, if there was a link to it, it's gone. If there wasn't, no one had the opportunity. Is it too big to put up on the board?
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

I just launched PSE 2, took a whopping 15 seconds to load.

Now, PSE 3 is here (arrived days before we moved, so it's never been installed) and I'm wondering if I really want to mess with what works.  ohmy.gif

I find that ToyViewer is the perfect appliction for RAM challenged Macs and .... it's a UB.  It does, however, require X.4.

ToyViewer version for Panther is also available (4.80).

As to the screen loading all the plugins, fonts, etc. I found that very helpful in the olden days when PS would occasionally barf on startup. You could track down the problem area by where it stopped in the process.

Another way to view a .jpg, if you don't need to edit it, is to drop it on a browser, such as Safari.

So the answer is . . . Adobe will always make everyone look at all that horsepucky (even at lightspeed for some fortunate "operators") no matter what!

Adobe is not just making you watch that because they want you to look; Photoshop and Photoshop Elements load as fast as they are able.

Photoshop and Photoshop Elements both are built on the same core. They do a i]lot[/i] of processing when they launch. For starters, they load and sanity-check a bunch of files (including the Preferences files, Action sets, color swatch sets, default tool sets, and so on), measures memory, loads and scans all of the fonts installed (if you have many fonts, that really bogs down launch), loads and scans all of the ICC profiles installed on the system, initializes the ICC color conversion engine, builds color separation tables, sets up a virtual memory pagefile (Photoshop does this when it launches, before it actually loads any files), sets up the user interface according to the preferences it reads, and so on.

Add Rosetta to the mix and it takes a lot longer. Photoshop in particular runs very poorly in Rosetta, in part because Photoshop has a lot of hand-written assembly-language routines designed for the particular architectural features of the PowerPC processor. This speeds its performance on G4 and G5 processors, but really causes problems in Rosetta; I'm actually kind of surprised Photoshop works in Rosetta at all. smile.gif

It's not that Adobe's trying to bore you; it really is loading as fast as it can...

I have PSE, version 3.0 and it loads very quickly on my G5 tower.

Helpfully instructive, Tacit . . . if not reassuring!

Thanks.
