Star Trek "Nemesis"
« Reply #15 on: May 23, 2003, 04:16:37 AM »
I rented the dvd, didn’t think much of it, and suspect  the “education of B4” as the next film focus. I gave up cable as well Bill, and see the future in movie downloads. A guy could spend an hour a day sorting though the trash on cable, only to find some old flick that’s been in syndication for 20 years. I use to like pay-per-view, educational, arts and  the sports channels, but PBS is sufficient, and sports is the best covered programming there is, which leaves the occasional movie which can come home with the popcorn and beer. wink.gif

Neighbor friend has three of those tiny satellites set up all of a sudden SB.
I know they have direct tv but two more popped up within the last day or two.

Was going to ask what the story is when I got home this afternoon.
They packed up their new and shinny motorhome and split for the weekend. <gr>

They have rentals all over the place and I know they're always picking up perfectly good fridges, couches etc. Maybe that's where the extra two came from.?.
He's also tries to get the best out of what he has.
Has all three stacked up next to each other. Bet he's testing which gets the best picture and what not. biggrin.gif

I did satellite in rural Montana, it’s was OK. Friends up in the Florida boonies have it now, seems to work, doesn’t fail anymore than cable and the rates are competitive, but it’s still the same ol same ol, “67 channels and nothing on”.

I like an occasional flick, Blockbuster runs a “three for” and I have a hard time seeing all of the flicks in the time allotted. I just watched “the 25th hour” slow, deep, real, fell asleep in the middle, a Spike Lee drama.

I’ve yet to watch “the truth about Charlie” and the “Road to Perdition” though they have to be back Sunday at noon, and I really don’t have the time to spend.

I think they should give Star Trek a rest, let it’s absence build a desire and make one that is unforgettable in a few years. The Nemesis really wasn’t the way to go out. ph34r.gif

"I think they should give Star Trek a rest, let it’s absence build a desire and make one that is unforgettable in a few years. The Nemesis really wasn’t the way to go out."

Agreed.

The only problem I see is they closed the book (not chapters) officially.
For Star Trek to come out of the closet later on,an entire new blood transfusion would have to be implemented. I can't see 'book two.the new Star Trek' happening.

Maybe someone or ones will start a whole new title theme [away from all the off shoots of ST] and possibly integrate ST into them as they go along. After all as mentioned before "the fans are in place/coins". It would be foolish or plain near-sighted for that type of revenue to go poof-in-the-night.

In my opinion (and even with this nasty headache) i still feel that the Star Trek movies are still the best as it comes to a pure Sience Fiction movie.
The quality of the movies is always superb and the space scenes and everything around it always looks "real" to me.
I think the problem is that people are haning on to the "older" series to much, and expect the movies these days to be like that.
I, however, always felt that the series were different than the movies cause the movies could show us lots more dept than they could ever show us in the series.
If you look at the quality of the "Nemessis" movie (and i'm not talking about the story line) than you notice that there's no science fiction movie who can compare to that.
Sure we had "Blade Runner" who was visual just awesome but i'm happy to learn about other awesome science fiction movies?
Star Wars? well they are great to, but they are made from a totally different persepective than the Star Trek movies.
When i see Star Trek (just saw "First Contact" again), i always have the feeling of being on the star trekking myself.
I feel like exploring the galaxy with them, seeing the beauties of it (although they end up fighting at times).
For me... it's a shame if they would stop making Star Trek movies, even after the poor "Nemessis".
I only agree partual with Bill, maybe they should freez it for a while, but i feel they should somehow rethink the Star Trek series and keep the independant of the Star Trek movie crew as we have now.

Oooh, besides... what ever happened to the rumour of having a Voyager Movie?

DB,
You was thinking the 'where' ST could come up with new ideas "there just isn't anywhere else to go IMHO" on the -where did that bad guy come from- ..

biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Just think that person you're looking at in the mirror .... could be the real Macoy from another dimension and you could be the reflection in her eyes.
OR you 'both' could be what the alive mirror has ta look at. <gr>

MB,
the movies have always had great scenes as opposed to the series. That's where the big bucks go.
Those folks in the series had to work out of inclosed boxes called props that had limited budgets for TV.

Sometime ago they showed Janeway leaning to hard on a prop wall. That same prop wall was being used for some game show from the other side later on. *They* figured 'why' move this and that around. Just tape game show afterwards.
Well Janeway knocked the wall over which in turn knocked two others. smile.gif
The old (((CUT --- CUT!!))) and they still had to re-do the walls for the game show. biggrin.gif

He he he Bill...  biggrin.gif

I think what I might like to see if they're going to do more ST movies are "follow-ups" on things that happened in the Original Series... like what they did with "The Wrath of Kahn".

I remember when they dumped these people on Ceti (whatever #) someone remarked it would be interesting to check in on them in a couple of centuries or so and see what they'd done... there's other episodes from that series that might be cool to "go further" on.

Or personally I'd like to see a Deep Space Nine movie... like what did happen to Sisko after the prophets reclaimed him?

Hmmmm... X-Files ended on a cliffhanger too, but I sure don't want to see another cheesy "aliens take over the world" movie... could be good "if" someone does it right.

Here you have the borg. a bunch of glorified nano-nites that keep expanding and expanding.
Then there's those super-duper dinosaurs (in the other ST shoot off with Janeway) who technically was advanced as the borg 'but' they evolved from our very own ancestor dinosaurs.
Fact. In that one episode, the first officer Chakotie  (however that's spelled) asked the overgrown lizards with an IQ 3000 if they've run across the borg. Think the answer was "the borg and lizard empire [i'm sure the empire was called something else but what the hey <gr>) have an agreement. They leave our tails alone and we'll not blow up their costume designers planet. Something of that nature anyways. smile.gif

I'd like to see those ugly ducks butt heads. biggrin.gif

Imagine "Q" and his gang sitting up on the stands watching those two playing circle marbles with entire planets, solar systems etc ... bong ... -just knocked planet X out of the circle ya ugly zipper head- ... reply: -WE WILL PREVAIL!- smile.gif smile.gif

You wouldn't be talking about that Species 8472 would you? Or the Hirogen (sp?)

Wouldn't mind knowing what in the heck Wesley has been up to on those "other planes of existence" with the Traveller... Hmmmmm...
