Receiving large attachments with "Mail"
« on: June 11, 2003, 03:31:21 PM »
Hi,

Still helping my cousin who's new to Macs/computers. I have a question about the program  "Mail", which I don't use.

She has a dialup connection. There are times when she gets large attachments from friends that only the text of the email downloads from the ISP (Earthlink) server. My guess is that as in Entourage (which I use) that there's a setting somewhere in Mail that limits the size of attachments that are automatically downloaded to the recipient of the email, and that somewhere there's a way to allow a large file to download from the ISP's server--either as a permanent fix, or at least on "email by email" basis.

Any Mail users know how to do this??   thanx.gif

A couple of IMacs, an iPad, a bunch of iPhones...two of which don’t live here, but I still pay for. Oh yeah, wife, daughters, and yes—a grandson!

No attachments will autmoatically get downloaded, that would be a huge security risj. Instead, just drag the attachment form Mail to the desktop, and it will download.

Yo Rob,

in Mail ->Preferences-> Viewing....there is a radio button that says:

Display images and imbedded objects in html messeges

Then it says below: Turn this off to display only the text portion of an html message  huh.gif

I don't know if that will help or not.
That's the only pref i can find that relates to your question. sad.gif

Thanks guys, I'll have her check that. Giantmike, when she receives emails with very large attachments, or a large number of attachments. she can't drag them anywhere, save them to her desktop, or do anything with them. I'm sure the attachment(s) are not getting off of the Earthlink server with the text of the email, because, she uses a dialup and when she has forwarded that email to me or even herself, it goes through immediately--no waiting for the email to upload the attachment, etc.

Recently, she forwarded me an email with many jpegs attached. (She couldn't do anything with those attachments.) I was able to open the email and download them all to my desktop. then I sent them to her spread out over a few emails. She could open all of them this way.  wallbash.gif

Ok, she already had that box checked, so, that wasn't it.  unsure.gif I have her calling Earthlink, but she hasn't gotten through yet. Maybe they'll have an answer. Or not.    wink.gif
