I've seen it, not lately, but recall a plot with someone dead and others trying to find a place to put the body! Seems to me there have been many remakes (some in plot and not in name) but only original is the old one (Hitchcock but I did have to look to be sure).  Thanks, I wonder if it's one you can see online?  Nah, but it needs to be seen in crisp black and white in a cold movie theatre!

Netflix has it on instant watch right now. What site were you thinking of? And it was filmed in Technicolor not B&W, and you should see it in color to appreciate the gorgeous fall colors of "Vermont".

Those of us who grew up with B&W tellies used to be quite surprised when reruns years later turned up in colour. As kids it had just never occurred to us they had NOT been made in black and white doh.gif

UK’s first colour channel was launched in 1967.

There is a richness and correctness to "colour" over "color" as long as no one mistakes it for "collard" as in greens! wink.gif  I think "aluminum" isn't quit "al-u-men-knee-um" especially when it comes around to using it for barbieQ and aluminum foil hats to protect one from alien influences!   Devilish2.gif

If you think WE have too many letters in colour, just look at the French "couleur"  whistling.gif

I'll never forget the first time I saw "The Wizard of Oz" on a color TV (1969, I think).  When Dorothy came out of the house and everything around her was in color my eyes must have popped.  I remember saying excitedly over and over, "It's in color, it's in color!"

After that I kept expecting to be surprised by other movies in the same way but none did it quite like that. smile.gif

I didn't see "The Wizard of Oz" in color until the early 1980's. I was stunned. LOL! There have been several movies that have been surprises to me. Mac saw them in the theater as he grew up, but my family seldom had the money for movies, so my whole experience with these movies was from TV broadcasts. Recently we watched "How to Marry A Millionaire" and I was stunned to see it was in color. laugh.gif

I don't think I've ever seen the Wizard of Oz in color/colour! If I have, I don't remember - seeing it in B&W at the age of about 6 has stuck in my mind forever. I was absolutely TERRIFIED by the winged monkeys and demanded that my aunt turn the TV off! My aunt was babysitting me - my parents had gone out for the evening and she'd been so excited that the Wizard of Oz was on. If I recall, she wouldn't turn the TV off and suggested that I go out to the kitchen while the monkeys were on screen! I was not a very happy camper at that point. Scarred for life! wink.gif

Anyway, one of my favorite funny movies is Four Weddings and a Funeral. I also loved A Fish Called Wanda. And just about all of the Monty Python movies.

When I was little, I thought "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines" was absolutely hysterical. I haven't seen it in eons - don't know if I'd still find it funny. A few years ago, I got the DVD of Peter Sellers' "The Party" - another movie I'd thought was hilarious when I was much younger and found it nowhere near as funny as I did when I was a kid. One's funny bone definitely changes over time.

I can remember, not to long ago, seeing the Wizard of Oz in B&W and the Oz scenes in color.  It was pretty effective because it was in letterbox format I think. Cable?  I don't think this is the copy I have on VHS but I'll have to figure out a down converter to actually watch it on my current "working" television.  I wonder if it would be more surreal to watch it with the Oz scenes in B/W and the Kansas in color. . .this is the way I dreamt it when I was traveling with the Tin Woodsman, the cowardly Lion, and the Scarecrow!   whistling.gif whistling.gif whistling.gif

By sheer coincidence, while on another search, I found this regarding the Oz movie and color info:
