I think the following comment pretty much wraps up that site (although there were several that said basically the same thing):

This just shows, once again how little eConsultancy knows about actual development and smacks of creating a headline with HTML5 in it, just for the publicity.

Along with the Popup screen they "offer" while castigating its use on one of their examples. Of course, I don't usually see any Popups, since I always block them in the browser. Doesn't everyone do that?

Very little of the lousy web design highlighted has anything to do with HTML 5, as Jim notes. It's just bad user experience all round, caused by web designers who are more interested in the "look, Ma, see what I can do!" sort of web design than actually conveying information. The last site, Rally Interactive, in particular was a real turn-off. All those silly triangles took you to very uninformative postings on the aptly-named dribble.com for the SAME project. What real designer uses dribble.com to post their work? Really??? Pretty lame.
