The Wiz is (was) a major electronics chain in the NY/NJ area. They just went bankrupt and are closing their stores. There was one about 10 miles from me but don't know if it is still open. Will try to call tmrw and see what they might have.

I didn't see any mail order either.

BUT!

If they are going out of business as Krissel points.!.

They could welcome any sort of cash flow heading their way.

Ya never know.

I would of gotten back sooner but decided to wipe my main drive clean and re-partition. Had one partition to large.
Took about thirty minutes to clear out 120gbs and re-partition.
An hour and a half to slap everything back in and then check/test.
Left some bookmarks out from my backup copy ....
I'm off to go find them. <gr>

See me.

I am not sure what kind of problem you guys had with my two links but they worked fine for me as I clicked them again.  The DDI Magazine link I posted stated this about The Wiz.

quote:
Cablevision prepares to close The Wiz chain

FEBRUARY 12, 2003 -- Cablevision Electronics Investments Inc., a subsidiary of Bethpage, N.Y.-based Cablevision Systems Corp., says it plans to close the remaining 17 locations of The Wiz electronics chain if it can't find a buyer by the end of June. Cablevision is exploring options for its 17 remaining The Wiz stores, including selling the business or closing all the stores. The chain made several changes to its business to improve customer service, while continuing to evaluate its performance and strategy. Cablevision can no longer operate the stores, citing the weakened retail economy and other factors.

Sorry if the links didn't work for you.

If any of you live in an area with a "multicultural" base you will sympathize with my attempt to find any info from the Wiz people.

My first attempt got me someone who didn't know Apples from Oranges, litterally. Second try meant talking to someone who didn't quite have a handle on the English language, let alone computerese.
Third clerk said "yes" to everything I asked but then said I really had to come to the store to be sure. Huh?

I had a conversation last night with my Dad who dealt with that store when buying his digital camera recently. He had gotten a model that didn't have zoom by mistake and returned to the store to exchange and upgrade. The clerk had assured him that there was no problem if he ultimately decided to bring it back. Of course when he tried the manager said that was not their policy cause people often took cameras home, used them for a party then returned them. After assuring the guy that he wanted to UPgrade the camera, the manager agreed. The manager asked who told him that he could bring it back with no problem and my Dad told him "Bob". The manager looked at another clerk and said "Bob's lying again".

Now you understand why this company is going bankrupt.

Glad you found something, Gary.

Hmmm ... You sure you weren't at a frys Krissel?
Sounds the same too me.
Best to know what you want before even walking into the store.

Their phone service at frys is totally ridicules. Yet sometimes it can be an advantage.Example is when I purchased a WD drive from CircuitCity and asked if they price matched. After they said yes (depending on the chain),I told them to call frys.
Most of the time they don't even bother if it's within $20 because they know they'll be stuck on the phone forever and still might not get a straight answer.
I just didn't want to drive 40 miles (one way) to get the lessor price from frys when CC is ten minutes away.

Sounds good Gary S.
You are going to have fun and then some!!!
I'll be curious which (brand name) drive it will have in it.

Bill,

I don't know what brand drive it will have. It will be 60MB though. It's a refurb so......from what they tell me at PowerMax, Apple goes through them with a fine tooth comb and corrects what ever issues are present. Then when PowerMax gets it they go through it and bench test it too.

I bought 2-512 sticks of PC133 2-2-2 and a set of Apple Pro speakers(they had them on sale for $37.00) from OWC. I bought a Viewsonic 19" Graphics monitor similar to the 17" I've been using for the past 5 years (can't beat a 3 year warranty).

I'm thinking of putting an extra HD in it for OSX.2.
I'll see what it's got on it when I get it.

BTW, PowerMax said the 933 is much sought after and very desirable. They were only gettin 7 of them so i put a deposit on it. They'll be gone quickly.

I'm holding of on the USB hub and router and cables until the Visa bill clears,    plus I can get all that stuff locally out here in the boonies.

I don't want to get my wife too excited either....Appleworks ought to just fly.

I'm excited.

I'm sure PowerMax goes through the machines with a real sharp fine tooth comb before sending them out Gary s. That you can take to the bank.

Sounds like your going to be ready to rock as soon as it gets to the door.
19" monitor,extra ram,speakers.

The reason I was asking about which HD it will have is because I thought they all came with [stock] Seagate but this other one had a IBM in it. I have no idea what Apples reasoning is behind the two different HDs. Perhaps whatever they have on their selves at the time? Both are close to noise free,so who cares. <gr>

If down the road you do pick up another HD,get one of the 8mb cashe buffer jobbers like WDs or Maxtors. I've a WD 120 plus the 60 in one and a WD 80 plus the 60 in the other.
I now know that the 120 is way -overkill- for my needs. Don't know what your game plan is but the 80 fits my needs just fine plus a little extra space to play with.
Fact is the 60 stock could be kool even. <- I feel so hip typing kool.... /snicker
You'll have what? About 55 to split? 9/X/apps/scratch or whatever?
Give Xxx plenty of breathing room when partitioning for future use.
Sense I have space to burn,I gave Jag almost 30gbs and I just did "get info" .. 4.75 used.Sheeesh.
Anyhoo. You know the old story about how much for this and that jive. Too each his own.

I have a spare X and OS 9xx in my second HD just in case, although it really isn't necessary but what the hay.
Actually ..... now that you're going to have a speed demon machine with firewire!
YO Burner Time! <gr> ~~~ and no I have none left ta send ya ~~~

NO 1 RULE!!!!!! KEEP TRACK OF Kps!    Even though he is an odd duck.
