Kelly,

It's a long story but you were right. That 867 G4 is an Educational model and has no L3 cache. I'm thinking of canceling my order. Help!

Well. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

Or as Hayden Fry used to say"The sun don't shine on the same old dog every day".

Kind of sorry I was right in this instance Gary.

See your other thread.

I'm glad you were right too Kelly.

It's been canceled as I said in my other thread.

Well I've seen you posting questions at the dealmac Forum.

Which is a good thing by the way.

There's lots more info out there on this stuff.

Depends how technical you want to get.

Apple's use of Level 3 cache is a bit different than earlier uses of large L2 cache.

I don't know offhand if other PC makers are doing this or not.

SRAM is an important concept to know.

Kelly,

I'm just having a real hard time finding a G4/867MHz QuickSilver. I think that's what I want.

I found this link and talked to the guy and the only problem is that it come without a manual.

Gary. Why is that a better deal than the Dual 800 Quicksilver for the same price?

Which is now gone.

That seems a bit high for that machine IMHO. But you might want to just get it over with.

Don't worry about any manuals.

Otherwise. If you're sure you want a Quicksilver we can keep looking.

Kelly,

I just don't think I want one of those Windtunnel machines. I was reading about heat problems with them too.

I think I may have found a deal on a QuickSilver 933 with a Nividia 64 MB Graphics board. It would be a refurb from directly from Apple. We'll see.

I'll know more later.

I'm thanking you for all your help.

Gary, I wouldn't worry too much about missing manuals - they're all available online from Apple. If you find a good price on the machine you want, go for it!

Gary S.
Have you ever heard of an electronics chain called "The Wiz"? I haven't.

I heard and read that they have some 867s and 933s sitting around.
Something to effect that they aren't selling them because of the newer machines being out.

I've no idea how much stock is in this info.!.
Nor did I look up where their stores are located.

Wouldn't hurt to check it out.
Probably lead to a dead end but hey.

Bill, I did a little searching for the fun of it.  Came up with this on The Wiz electronics stores.

I backtracked with iGuys link to their 'About us' (see above url) page.
Looks like they're mainly in New York.
Those guys are not no small fries from the backwoods. NY Knicks!

Didn't look too closely but couldn't find any 800 number.

One of the bits I read was some guys girlfriend worked at one of the stores and bought a 867 (or was it a 933) for just above cost because they were sitting around in a warehouse.

Of course you're not going to see things like that on their website naturally.

OBill,
I can't find a telephone number either and I was all over that site.

I'm guessing they are cash and carry. I don't see any mail order references at all. New York customers only.

They do have a store locator but I ain't gonnin to NY to get one.
