I still wouldn't be able to have internet on the new computer though.
I think I may go to Best But either tommorrow or Monday and see if I can pick up one of those routers.

I'll let you know.

I picked up a 50' (two-three feet short .. Quick reroute) crossover cable today.

Couldn't get it to work in Jag but zero problems in 9. So that's good enough. <gr>

The only worry I had was after the designated partitions would appear on the desktop.Once finished with them, what does one do with them?
I was thinking along the lines of dragging them to the trash [like zips, external drives etc] but turned off file sharing instead. It worked. Not to sure if that was the correct method though.

I was dragging stuff back in forth in both directions like all get out.

Took over an hour to clean up my mess.

psssst ... Gary S,they had a 867 dual at frys. Buy "as is" sign on it.
Wasn't hooked up. Took a peek inside. Think it might of been 'home' for some mice at one time. Filthy plus.No ram.Scratch on the outside an inch long.
It was a demo they found buried in the back.
Price tag $1299. Petty the poor soul who ends up buying that door stop.

Gary, about transfering files.

You can file share with an ethernet patchcord between the two machines.

Older Macs would need a router, switch or crossover cable. The new Macs are auto configuring, so you don't have to spend the high price for a crossover cable. If you have, or get a plain patch cord, you can use it later if you decide to get a router or switch so you can network other devices (printers, other computers or modems).

Gary S.

Not that this is anywhere near a big thing. Yet I thought I'd better bring it up so you don't go running to a corner shouting those nice words.

You have two 512 PC-133  2-2-2 ram sticks waiting at the gate for the horse ta show up.
The horse (think you said) is coming with a 256 stick.
If it's also a 2-2-2 stick then disregard this message.

If it's a 'slower' speed 256,then the 512s will drop down in third gear to run with the slowest  (256) stick.

Not that big of a deal one way or another.
7.0ns as apposed to 7.5ns. Whoppie.

Bill,

It may not be a biggie but I'm glad you told me.    I didn't know that.
I think Apple ships them with the slower ram so I'll check. I wonder if it will say on the ram stick.

I just ran my Apple System Profiler (OS9.1) and all it tells me is the slot and the size.
