AFAIK, very few companies put any year in the name of a product.
Not only does it date it, it can easily cause the delays to become more obvious. Why bring out a "2007" version of anything in November?! Even the car companies start bringing out "next years" models by the end of Summer! Of course, "marketing" has never been one of Microsoft's strong suits!

I wonder if Mr. Gates had a lot of trouble making friends when he was very young? That's the only way I can explain his disdain for being user-
friendly!
I can imagine him wearing a sports coat ( he never wears a T-shirt, does he? ) reading, "Does not play well with others. And guard closely your intellectual property!"
