And how long before Verizon does it too? And before they all start charging you for going over the limit, as Rogers does here in Canada?

whew.gif I thought it was going to be about minutes, not kilo/mega/giga/tera-bytes.

Our first ISP was AOL back in 1994 or 1995 and there were time limits. I believe we could exceed the limit, but then we'd have to pay more. I haven't heard about time limits for quite awhile. Does anybody do that anymore?

Time only mattered when transmission rates were so low. smile.gif Now it's 'bytes.' But I'll have to admit, I was disappointed that this thread wasn't about a head worn clothing item...I could sure use anther "Interweb" cap, my old ones pert near wore out! biggrin.gif

I used to have a real nice internet cap with a propeller on it back in the old days.  Wait a minute; I don't think the internet was invented then! whistling.gif

Kenny, I had a similar thought at first read... again.   eek2.gif

Second look brought my brain in line with the actual intent. rolleyes.gif

Gregg, yes, there are still accounts that are limited by time and they charge for going over. Those are usually dialups as in the old days. I have an 'emergency' ATT account which gives me 10 hours per month. I have it as a backup for when my cable goes out.  Not very cost effective but gives me peace of mind. smile.gif

Can't imagine with a recession coming on that more people will be purchasing broadband. It's been on the decline for a while now. I think they're going to try to limit infrastructure overage and need to concentrate on finishing the rural communities. From conversations I've had with Fiber installers, they are planning to wire the boonies and then use WiMax for the last mile. If this is actually the case then increases to the existing pipe will not be a priority so they will need to limit access by charging premiums to abusers. Less than 10% will ever approach the limits and as far as I'm concerned we should be paying for our use, like a utility, rather than paying under this structured plan that has been imposed upon us.

I'll gladly pay for what I use as will everyone I have spoken too about this issue, the problem is that the carriers can't justify their fees or cover-up hidden charges under a pay as you go plan. Broadband has given carriers the license to steal, and it's about time it was put to an end.  mad.gif

Agreed.  I've been monitoring my usage and the past two months have used just under 5G of bandwidth per month so I'm well within any limits. I should be paying a lot less than those who are using 20 times my bandwidth.  sad.gif

I assume you mean the economy is declining, not broadband usage/purchases/subscriptions?

As for the numbers of people purchasing it, that's the whole point of the recession: People buying more than they can afford to pay for. "I can't live without that channel and I might as well get the Internet with it." The 'bill is past due' for those folks. But we will all get to help them out and their 'friends' at some banks/Wall Street...wallbash.gif
