iTunes 4.0.1 available via software update
« Reply #15 on: May 29, 2003, 04:05:59 AM »
Sitting here not knowing if I should update.

I haven't had any problems with iTunes 4, fortunately.  I am kinda bummed that if I update to 4.0.1, I can't tell a friend to listen to my playlist over the internet.  As it goes, the more people that update, the less people I can share with.  Either way, I haven't really shared much over the internet, just seemed like a great feature to have around.  I do share within my LAN.

For now, I won't update.

While I can understand that Apple wants to ensure that illegal sharing of music from the iStore cannot take place I think it's a pity that the playlist sharing fuction is disabled.

I think it's cool when talking to friends to be able to say "Hey, click this link and see what I am listening to right now".

Well, I'll live, but a pity it is...

Ummmmmmm. . .Does anybody out there have the iTunes 4.0 (NOT the newest!) updater stashed some place?   I'm still running 3.0.1, and since I'm using it to burn examples for my students, I don't want to have a limit on what I can burn to CD!

I've just looked all around some of the download sites Beacher. Nothing.

I never got around downloading it back then.
Perhaps/maybe Apple pulled version 4.0. from everywhere or I'm not looking under the right rocks?

I am not aware of any difference between iTunes 4.0 and the latest updater when it comes to burning CD's.  As far as i know, the latest update disabled the internet sharing of playlists, but did not further restrict CD burning.

As of iTunes 4.0 you are restricted to burning 10 CD's of the exact same playlist if this playlist consists of music purchased from the Apple music store.  You can however, change a playlist slightly and burn 10 more etc...

So if you do not want this 10 CD limit.... you have to stay with iTunes 3.01 (of course then you can't get into the music store in the first place.)

Pascalin. It's a balance betwwen File size and sound quality. smile.gif

mp3 has been the favorite for smaller size decent sound.

AAC may have an even smaller size and to some better quality.
