Apple closes down OS X

By Tom Yager, InfoWorld

Thanks to pirates, or rather the fear of them, the Intel edition of Apple's OS X is now a proprietary operating system.

Mac developers and power users no longer have the freedom to alter, rebuild, and replace the OS X kernel from source code. Stripped of openness, it no longer possesses the quality that elevated Linux to its status as the second most popular commercial OS.

There's probably truth in both sides of the arguements on those sites. Most is way beyond me and I never considered OS X to really be non-proprietary, anyway. But there do seem to be a lot of sour grapes in certain places...
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system

The new owners of ResExcellence are Bryan and Chris from Radical Breeze software.

I posted this topic in the ResEx forums a couple of days ago and Chris had this to say on the subject. It is interesting from the point of view of a developer. In his post he quotes two replies from Slashdot and it looks like this news is a bit like the resurfacing of the "new Mac OS X dangerous virus/malware/trojan/worm that deletes all your files that we have found for your reading pleasure - so basically Mac OS X is no longer safe to use" the PeeCee media keeps telling us about every month or so.

Apple is trying to split hairs. Claiming to be open source and locking up the kernal is a nono under BSD rules I would suspect? Apple has claimed it to be a security threat,  others claim that people are using the code to run OSX in White Boxes.

I think Apple has burnt their closest allies. These were the folks that tested the software or found problems. I hear background noise of developers shifting tides to Open Source on ADM 64 bit chips as a path to a developers future. There seems to be a lot of upset folks out there. wink.gif
