Photos of my railroad can be seen at http://photos.yahoo.com/sjurhs. Open Wind River Valley Garden railroad album. I currently have a two truck 3 piston Shay (you can see it in the photos) running on battery power, a Climax, a Heisler, a Porter and a Mogul. All running on strack power. My plan is to convert them to battery power. All, except the Mogul, are geared locomotives and are branded according to the original inventory of the Michigan California Lumber Co.

Most of us are trying to add shade/trees to our yard. It appears that you are on the other end of the Spectrum! Of course, they make some very nice equipment, also, but all of it needs protection from the Sun... smile.gif

Nice layout, even if it is awfully close to the ground! Do you have any lift-outs to get to those hard-to-reach areas? wallbash.gif eusa_dance.gif

Are they eingines controled via the rails or RC?

Actually, Parker, many 'old-time' electricians suggested keeping one hand in a pocket while working on high voltage equipment. That way, if there is an accidental flow of voltage, it has less of a chance travelling near the heart ( assuming most people are right-handed ).

ABD, I'm not sure who that first paragraph is addressed to. As to the rest, one of the nice features of the track that I've used is it's durability. You can actually walk on it. A lot of the ground covers are called "steppables" and will take foot traffic and with some strategically place open areas everything is accessable.

Locomotives, switches, and layout sound (sawmill, telegraph in the train station, church bells) are all radio controlled. Building lighting is solar powered.

Steve_J: Now that I've seen the pictures I know what you were talking about; I love those trains!  There used to be a mini-series or something on the local Public Television station that had a number of train layouts kind of like yours in different locations in the country.  Nice stuff!  Thanks for the pictures!

Thanx D76 and gunug.

There is a program on Dish satellite network on the RFDTV channel called "The Train Show" that is very interesting. It is on Wed evenings from 9:30 to 10:00. It deals with all things train, from toy trains to individual layouts, usually extensive, to Lionel history etc. etc.

I've never got past an unsceniced layout in my 45 years of 'arm chair' modeling. Well, I did build a 2 foot module for a club in the area. Even have a room set aside for a small layout in this house. Costs were always a problem and those haven't really gone down as my income went up! smile.gif Time has been the other major stumbling block. The Mac hasn't helped that! Guess we always can maike time for what we want to do...

The climate here does not appeal to me, even if I could afford the much more expensive G scale equipment. Of course, most of the detailing in an indoor layout is un-needed and that would save considerable money and even more time ( no need to paint clouds on a backdrop! And one can use real water to represent, uhm, water! WOW! ). I suspect most of the buildings are made of cast resin, I don't think plastic would stand up to the 100+ heat this week!

BTW, please unlock the door to that chapel, the Pastor has been waiting for a long time out there in that warm outfit! eek2.gif harhar.gif

I get it, I get it! cheer.gif It's been unusally hot, and humid!, here also. That poor pastor's church is cast resin from England. Most plastic buildings are impregnated with UV inhibitors. Weather is not usually a problem with G scale, I've even seen some layouts running in the snow.

Bachmann has a series of G scale locos also called Spectrum.

How did we get from 'eMac lcd conversions' to model railroading? Just goes to show the varied interests of Mac enthusiasts.

Somehow your quotes are not getting the closing tag. I edited both your last two. The first lacked the "/" in the closing tag. The last one just didn't have the closing tag at all. I assume you are using the 'standard' Reply button. Or are you using the one at the very bottom of the page? Or are you doing this quoting manually?

As for 'wandering' off subject, it's par for the course  at TS! Speaking of "par", anyone hear how Tiger  did today in England? Now Tiger, is still "On Topic" since that's the OS I'm using...harhar.gif eusa_dance.gif
