Mice won't scroll
« on: August 25, 2006, 02:33:40 PM »
G4 933-10.2.8 to10.3.5.  Logictech Click Optical mouse.
Macintosh Sever - 8.6 to 9.1. Microsoft Basic Optical  mouse.
When i updated the OS's on m 2 computers, neither mouse will scroll on either computer. Both will only scroll on both hard drives, but TS and other Fourms they won't but use too.
Both mice i re-enterd from disks on both. and entered updates from the MFGS.
Still only will scroll both hard drives.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!.

I'm a little confused about where the non-scrolling problem is. "TS and other forums" suggests that you do not have scrolling via the scroll wheel in any browser. Not sure what "will only scroll on both hard drives" means when just before that you say, "neither mouse will scroll on either computer". Thinking.gif

However, never one to let confusion affect my advice...
First suggestion is to check for updates to the mouse software at the appropriate site.
Second, check the settings on those pref panel/panes in each OS. Perhaps there are certain programs set to not use the scroll wheel abilities of the mice?

Thanks for reponding.TS and other forums will not scroll with either mouse. On both computers and both mice  will scroll only the contents of the hard drives, nothing else.
If you click on the hard drives, all whats on the hard drive shows up.
The program ,date entered, date modified , size and issue.
It will scroll this so you don't have to use the up and down arrows.
Niether mice work with scroll on anything else.
I did check updates on both mice and both computers. IF it worked i could use either mouse on either computer.
I will try Pref /panes.  Thanks again.

Just a shot in the dark, but maybe you could delete every file on one of the machines having to do with the mouse, before you reload the software. There could be a bad file that won't update.

Maybe run the permissions repair, too. Actually, run the permissions repar first, then restart the machine before trying the mouse again.

why is it not recommended to use the scroll wheel in any browser?

That's not quite what I said, Parker. And I'm assuming that is what you are refferring to, since no one else mentioned anything like that. My point is that many pref utilities allow you to keep the utility from being used in a particular app. If Kruser's mouse software has that capability, I am asking him to make sure he has not accidentally told in not to work with browsers, for example.

Kruser, it is certainly strange that the scroll wheel wil work in the Finder and nothing else. Can we assume that if you had a 5 page text document that it would not work in that document? What size document have you tried in your testing? How many "pages" in that document? What kind of document? Word? Excel? TextEdit? Preview? Email app with a long message?

Kruser,

Probably worth a try...

Disconnect the cables from all peripherals (except keyboard and mouse), shut down, and then do a cold startup.

If there is joy to be had, reconnect the peripherals one at a time until the problem is identified. Then, we can work that particular issue.

I love Logitech's mice but hate Logitech's software.

I have used USB Overdive w/ Logitech mice in OS 9.0 thru OS 10.4.7 have never had a problem scrolling. smile.gif

You can get USB Overdrive here.

P.S. it's shareware but will run full featured with just a reminder to reg. on startup. smile.gif
