Heya!

I just wanted some input - I've been considering a new laptop of late, but I have to admit that despite how shiny the new macbooks look, this

was a website I found a little offputting

So I just wondered if any of you out there own macbooks and if this stuff in this site is common. I always knew intel cores tend to run hot but the temperatures listed in there seem pretty extreme.

It wouldn't surprise me if they had problems - it is the first run of a new design - new things these days are usually riddled with problems.

I have never had any problems with my MacBook. I have several friends and cyber-friends whose experience mirrors my own.

NOW, walk over to wherever you can browse magazines (Library, Borders, B & N, etc.) and look at the CURRENT issue of P.C. Magazine.  They have NEVER been pro Mac but in their very comprehensive consumer study The MacBook beats every PeeCee laptop in EVERY category !

Everyone should read this article. it is well done and compares desktop macs to PeeCees as well, where not only do Macs first rate in all of a wide aray of categories. but the margins are quite impressive !

Refer your PeeCee friends to it as well.   be a Mac Evangelist.  Be Proud.

I have owned G3 and G4 iBooks for over four years (and counting...) of use.

Having carefully looked at the MacBooks I would not buy one at this time. There are several design issues that need to be addressed, particularly the new interior heat dissipator which spreads the heat across the bottom-front of the MacBook. The MacBooks are significantly hotter than previous iBooks because of this and the less than desirable heat transmission qualities of the plastic case.

From a personal taste standpoint, the MacBooks just look and feel cheap to me, even though I know that they are constructed of high-grade plastic and beat any PC laptop out there in that price range.

If I was looking at a portable Mac right now I would seriously consider a MacBook Pro even though it is considerably more expensive. I have recently been working with the $1999 base model and I am very impressed with the design and general quality of workmanship (even though there is a minor defect in the upper right-hand corner of the screen... one of those dreaded white "water spots.") The MacBook Pro also does a better job at getting rid of the heat than the MacBook.

If I wasn't needing a portable Mac right away I would wait and see whether Rev. B MacBooks address some of the design issues.

I can't speak to the Macbook, but I have been very happy with my Macbook Pro.  I have the 2ghz model which at the time I bought it was the top end (256MB Vram 1GB ram etc...).  I have been very happy with it.  That being said, the heat does at times get annoying, especially if I hold it on my lap. Apple may not recommend holding it on your lap, but I do still do it at times.  I bought a Targus Chill pad.  I bought mine at Target, but Amazon has it cheaper.  It works great at dissipating the heat both when on my lap and when on the Desk.  It draws its power from a USB port and its twin fans are virtually silent.  I believe there is a more expensive version that incorporates a USB hub into the design eliminating the loss of the USB port for the fans.

I have a Macbook and a Macbook pro, both of them are perfect.

For the heat, I recomend iLap

Problems with my MacBook:

-HEAT IS UNBEARABLE!
-Whine when processor is idle
-Power brick buzzing sound (extremely annoying)
-I look emo because the case is sharp and my wrists look slit
-Display flickers
-DISCOLORATION (just came back from repair for that)
-Destroys CD and DVD Media

-Speakers are too low


yea... MacBook is full of problems...
i truthfully wouldn't buy one

Seriously though I think I might just wait, as someone suggested, for the next revision macbook, although I'm not well known for my patience. And by someone I mean Mayo.

It's a lot of money to spend on something that might just make me look emo.

jack up the ram, hard drive, etc
